STATE THEIR CASE

countv, 1 shall show his record up so
plainly Mint he willjimver again wi
to servo the people. During the ad
ministration of Judge lilakeley our
munthly expenses were an average ot
js?,w)O.UO. During l'.Wa, Judge Lake's
administration, U5,HlKt.0O per month,
during lilakoloy's torm we paid off
HNt,000.00 of liack debts, and only one
half the assets to levy on as at pre
sout, still the comity was brought to a
cash basis, what would have happened
if his 'administration had equalled
this in liberality of county funds.

There is not a name upon our coun
ty ticket that solicits the olllce. ftvery
man on our ticket had to be uiyod to
allow his name put upon the ticket
and every man on the ticket pledged
. himself, if elected would till his olllce
as the servant of the whole people,
and not add one cent to the taxpayers
expense that Gould be possibly avoid
ed. Our candidates for representatives
are 8. b Blythe, a fruit grower of
Hood Kiver, and J. C. Kgbett, a re
tired farmer, of The Dalles. Those
gentlemen need no introduction to
the voters pf this county, and if elect
ed, tbey go tQ the statu, capital nu
pledged, except to Statement No. One
and other appearing on the petitions
and that tbey will cast their ballots
for the man who received the highest
vote for United States Senator at the
June election f they will bo free , to
champion the interest of the people
of Wasco county aud the State of Ore
gon, and aWi the governor of our state
in his splendid showing he has made
in the past four years, aud they should
receive every man's vote who believes
in good government for the people
and not a private snap for tho ollice
holder. A. Hettiiigeu, our candidate
for sheriff, was tliolu.-t man to lllo his
application to stuud for this ollice.
lie is well known in this county, baa
grown from boyhood to manhood
among our poeple, aud if elected, will
till this office to;the entire satisfaction
t ) ail the people of this county. He
has uot.yet tuaiio a promio.,to any
one, and if the people call rfif"bim to
fill this position, he will enforce all
laws as he Hilda tbeiu aud run. this
olllce as economically as possible nnd
give this county a statement to spread
uuon its records never betoro eqnUlod
by any sheriff.
Johu Hampshire, our candidate for
county clerk, is well known hy every
voter in Wasco county. He was head
bookkeeper for the old firm of Mays &
Crowe for years, and whilo so employ
ed filled the position for four Tears
as county treasurer, Mid you all kuow
bow welll he tilled that ottice. When
the books were inspected by our coun
ty court, the expert made this state
ment, fhat not in all his experience
as au expert had he inspected so com
plete a set of books as wore furnished
by Wasoo coutily by treasurer, aud
tbey were a credit to aoy county aud
rarely ever found, and it our "John
ny" receives tho votes of the people
as be should, no- taxpayer will ever
have the slightest reason to regret
that he cast his ballot for John Hamp
shire. Instead-of this ollice making
small profit for the taxpayers, it will
show a large surplus at" the end of
each year for every voter in this coun
ty knows the prices charged by law
for tiling documents nt the county
clerk's office should show a large
earning to the taxpayers. This ollice
bas been in tho hands of our Kepub-
lioan holders for years. Put in a
Democrat for two years, mid you will
sea if you -cannot say, "This una a
good change and we will try him
again."
Ed Kurtz, our caudidnto for treas
urer has held the office as agent of
the Pacific Express Co., for tho past
twelve years, has been city treasurer
of Dalles city, the past two years, aud
during my term of mayor, 1 hail con
siderable opportunity to uote tho com
pleteness of his bpokkeepiug ability,
and 1 shall not' hesitate to recommend
him to the voters of this county, and
If tbey will help to el act him, 1 will
guarantee that r he will -give them a
treasurer that every man can be proud
of aud that be will not ask the county,
court to pay any part of his premium
on his bonds or hire him a sale from
Lake and Bolton, as appears on jour
county reoords, and it the county
court refuses to comply, ftitu the Jaw
and publish the county's expenses
