Kuasell Gobin.of Mount Hood, went to The Italics Tuesday, whore he p peared at the land office and coutested the claim of old man Riggs adjoining the James Hees place. Mr. Riggs died some time ago and as no one appeared to represent his claim Mr. Gobin cou tested it. As there was no opposition to Mr. dobiu's claim it is thought that theie is no doubt of bis getting the lund. The land ottice will an no o nee its decision in a few days. About two weeks ago Mr. Gobin fell and broke two of his ribs and it is only within the past few days that he has been able to get around. 'ew Bridge Over Hood Klver. A party In obarge of an O. R. & N. enigueer has been taking soundings In the river below tbe present railroad bridge for several days. Tbe object of tbe work is to locate bed rock for sinking piers. It is tbe intention of tbe O. R. & N. to straighten out the bad curves between tbe station aud he big bluff east of town and iu order to do so a new bridge will bave to be constructed a good many feet down stream from the present structure. The new bridge will be of steel and of tbe most substantial character. Wben built aud the roadbed changed one of the most dangerous points ou tbe road will bave been eliminated and a straight track made from the station to the point already indicated. Notice. They turn out between 500 and 000 sacks of flour per day, besides their feed and cereul business. Tbe leading Portland re tail grocers say their Cupid flour is the best seller they have ever handled. Some of tho largest dealers are cutting out all the other brands and handling the Hood Klver brands exclusively.
