At the last regular meeting of the Society of Progressive Thought, a co i ni'ttee consisting of Geo. A oommittee consisting of Mr. Mor ton, Mrs. Larwood aud Mace Baldwin were appointed to arrange a program for the eutertalnment that is to be given in the near future We expect a jolly good time at the eutertaiumeiit for' the committee Is tbe right sort and they have good material to work with. Miss Wigle re cited a piece about tbe business abil ity of two Diohers that were trying to do business on the Yankee plan. Donald Larwood repeated the verse from Gray's Eulogy that General Wolf is said to have repeated just before bis death at the siege of Quebec. Lida Morton, Hattie Cooper and Fred Wishart were appointed a committee on literary exercises or uext Thursday evening. Ten minutes recess was declared by the president during which the mem bers sood naturediy told eaon oiuer just how it was done aud how those that had taken active part should have done. Aftei the meeting was called to or der Mr. Morton took the floor and drilled the class in singing. Mr. Mor ton has a hard uphill light as instruc tor in vocal music, for the majority of ua kuow al out as much of music as a cayote decs of the Sunday clos ing law. We are all as bashful as a ten-year-old boy when be goes to see bla best girl for the first time. We wait for the others to sing first with the result that Mr. Morton does ti.e singing and we do the silent act. Mr. Morton don't receive muob encourage ment, but if bis voice and fists hold out he will make singers of us. We may not lie able to yodle like Mr. Burkhard or sing like Patti, but we can make noise enough to scare the wolf from our door. i Most Delightful Dancing Party. The usually un attractive interior of tbe opera bouse waa transformed into a green bower of attractiveness aud beanty by the decorations of fir and Oregon grape. A raised platfoi m in one corner of the dancing floor near the entrance was similarly decorated, upon which the Portland orchestra, which was engaged for the occasion, produced music that stirred the feet of even tbe most staid person present. Tbe stage was used for tbe purpose of serving luncheon and was decorated and admirably ar ranged for this purpose, l'ere dainty refreshments aud ooffee were served In the intervals of dancing, without tbe usual inconvenience of having to leave the room. Tbe gathering was a large one and the affair heartily en joyed by all, as was evidenced by tbe many congratulations and felicitations of the guests to their hosts and host esses.
