His order was filled by J. N. Bristol, a Portland grocer, w ho sent him a half dozen boxes grown by William Davidson of Hood River. On receipt of the apples, Dr. Hillis wrote from Plymouth church, Brooklyn, N. Y., to Mr. Bristol ae follows: "The apples came and I found them all I expected and more. The quality of the fruit is certainly wonderful, and dillicult of explanation, and I send you my gratitude for your kindness in my interest.
