the nivmbers and friends of the organisation,
and will prove a serious loss to the entire

The Davidson Fruit Co., are busy as
beavers getting out crates to care lor
the immense crop of berries that seems
now to be a certainty in the valley tin
season. Wliat trouble them the most
just now is lack of storage facilities. If
the farmers can possibly do so, it will
certainly be to their interest to get their
crates out as rapidly as possible, for,
should a tire get a start in the im
mense pile of crates thev have stored it
would be impossible to eitinguiBh it
and the supply ol crates lor the season
would be cut off, as it would be impossi
ble for tins company to make others to
take their place or to ship in from other
places enough crates in time to supply
the demand. While, it the crates are
distributed and a farmer's crates should
burn, his loss would not be nearly so
great as if lie could not harvest his crop
lor lack of crates aad his neigtinors
crates would not burn at the same time,
and where but a few crates burn they
they can be easily replaced; besides.
in the country there is not one chance
for a fire to a hundred at the factory and
storehouses, where aary .paeiirif train
is a menace, and where the use of en
gines and other machinery, handled
ever so carefully, carries more or less
danger. To us it would seem the part
of wisdom lor the berry growers ol tne
valley to asake sure of a aufiicient
number of cratea, if they can care for
litem, to at least bold the bulk of their

Eighth tirade Exams.
ActiRg Superintendent Neff was in
Uetod River Friday visiting our schools.
He says the past year has been a very
successful one, educationally, and excel
lent reports came in from all the schools
from their 8th grade examinations, very
few pupils taking 8th grade work and
failing to pass. The entire 8th grade at
Barrett passed as did the Frankton class.
Claude Thompson, the 13-year-old son
of Professor C. D. Thompson passed 6n
93. The professor holds Claude's rec
ord as ao proof that it is better to not
place a child in school until It is eight
years of ape, Claude having made the
eight grades irP five terms of eight
months each. This is a fine record, but
it has worked excellently iu Claude's
case it does not hold that it would do so
with many others. This wonld be a
very interesting subject for our instruc
tors to invest;gate at their institutes.
Florence Byerlee and Albert Garra
brant of Frankton passed at just the
same percentage, 08 2-10. There has
been a rivalry between them during the
entire term, eaco trying to excel tne
other, and the result ia that their certifi
cates show a high standing.
