While working with a cider mill lie got the index linger of his right hand caught in the cogs oi the mill, badly crushing his finger and tearing away the nail and considerable llesh and necessitating a 'rip to Hood River to have his wound dressed by a physician. Mr. Knox was for merly a resident of Hood River, and having since tried both Idaho and Cul fornia returns to Hood River to find a permanent homo. Professor H. T. Grillith, the well known Portland phrenologist, was in town a couple of days this week, but as his bills were not distributed before his arrival, failed to get out a crowd. He departed yesterday for The Dalles and will tour the Eastern portion of the state. The professor is an alile entertainer and an expert in his line. W. B. Cole and family returned Mon day evening from a two-week's visiting and hunting trip to Camas Prairie, Washington. lie reports having a good time and hanging ol) birds while out. Their little hoy m -t with a very painful accident while there. He was riding one of the horses and fell off, dislocating his right arm. John-Kelly brought to the Glacier of fice on Moiid'ay, a curiosity in the shape of a lien Davis apple or rat her apples it having hut one stem and two per fectly formed blossom ends. That na ture "originally intended to make two apples out of what bus now become one apple is plainly apparent, and Mr. Kel ly says tiiat he can account for it in no way except that thefruit was so thick on the limb that they did not have room to grow separately, w hich would indi cate that lie has a pretty good crop of apples. This is to he known ns Shakespeare evening and members are expected to give ideas about how to read Shakespeare.
