Mr. 8. W. Arnold returned Saturday
from Sherman county, where he has
been building a house for a rancher
near Wasco. He reports the prospects
etill good for crops in Shermati county.
Mr. R. O. Evans, who Is now located
at Stevenson, Wash., came up to cele
brate with us at Hood Kiver. Mr.
Evans has purchafed two town lots in
the center of the (town -of Stevenson
and is improving them by building.

Sherman county, celebrated in Hood
River. The excursion from Sherman
county did not materialize. Every
towu In the county had its own cele
bration. Rev. J. W. Jenkins and C. L. Cop
.' plo went to Turner last week as dele
gates to. the state convention of the
Uoited Brethreu church It was the
largest gathering of the kind ever held
in the state. Rev. Robert Copple was
alsa in attendance as a delegate from
i Cottage Grove. While at Salem, Mr.
Copple was shown through the various
state institutions located there.

J. C. Wheeler has sold his place of
three acres, 10 acres in section 34, and a
house and lot In Winans' addition to
M. S . Ballard, from Passadina, Cal.
He has also leased his 10 acre place to
T. R. Coon. Mr. Wheeler left on Mon
day for Los Angeles, where he expects
to make his home for a while. Mr.
Wheeler says he is mindful of the
many good things in Hood River and
may come buck next year a wiser man.

Some person has been guilty of do
ing the gate of the lateral of the Im
provement Co's ditch that supplies
water from Capt. Blowers' place to the
stile road. The water was shut oft' last
Saturday and Sunday, so that for part
of the day not a drop of water came
down the ditch. Who is the guilty

Mr. Paul Brandt of Portland, agent
for the sale of the Sterunter ,flre extin

on the West fork of Hood river, eight

Mr. At Fulton of the East Side was
badly hurt by the falling of the false
worK of a bridge on which he was at
work, near Cayuse Station, and was
brought home Monday.

Mr. J. I. Miller presented the Gla

had kept perfectly sound.
Miss Dora Tulbert, who has been vis
iting fiiends and relatives in Hood
River valley, returned to Portland on
the boat Tuesday morning.
Miss Mary Foley has been quite sick
for tlie past few days and for a Idle it
was thought she had scarlet fever. She
is now improving.
