Mr. li. F. Davidson ban resigned as
a member of the board of directors of
the Hood. River Fruit Growers' Union,
giving as bis reason that when he ac
cepted the office he supposed, from the
harmonious action of the stockholders
meeting, that a majority were in favor
or co-operation ana harmonious action
out ue nas since learned that many
growers reiuse to allow ine union to
handle their crops, and he will there
fore continue the Davidson Fruit
Co. This leaves matters In regard to
our Btrawoerry shipments tn about the
same unsatisfactory condition they
were in last year, we can see no good
reason why all the growers cannot
unite and ship with the union as at

Mr. E. E. Savage was taken to a

attended by a large crowd and the re

The recent rainy weather has caused
a halt In the work on the' new road
leading into town on the East Side.
Many who sorely need all their own
time at home are helping cheerfully
with the work. Help from without
the road district will be needed before
long, and it will then belonsr to the
citizens or tne town to take hold and
w;e that the road is completed. Let
the supervisor call for aid and it will
no doubt be forthcoming.

Last Satttrday a team belonging to
the Mountain Stage company started
from the barn drawing a hack without
a driver and ran up town. They were
running up Oak street at a lively pace
when some one coming out from the
Columbia Packing Co.'s market tried
to stop them but only succeeded in
causing them to shy to the other side
of the street. At Woodworth & Han
na's store a team and wagon belonging

team jumped over the wagon, and the
hack and the wagon were overturned.
The horses then turned towards the
side door of the store and were then
stopped with the pole of the hack
within only a few inches of the class
doors. One of the hind wheels of Tom
Wickens' waeron was wrecked. Th
hack was only slightly damaged and
the horses were uninjured.
Judge Bradshaw convened circuit
court for the February term, at The
Dalles, Monday, appointing J. B. Cros-
sen and J. H. Jackson general bailiffs
and J. Doherty grand jury bailiff. The
following named gentlemen were
drawn as grand jurors for the term:
foreman, Robert Black; G.M.McLeon,
D. G. Hill, G. C. Campbell, Geo. End,
C. D. Doyle and L. Lamb.
Frank Sherwood was down town in-
day, the first time since he had his
tussle with cholera morbus. He says
he drove thirty miles-after he was

On the 6th of February, Maggie, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Horace Htranaban, passed away
at the early age of 11 years and 19 di.ys. All
that tender care and love could do did not
avail to stay the progress of the disease. Iu

heartfelt sympathy ot the community. The
remains of little Maggie were laid to rest in

Mrs. H. F. Davidson wrote up the
