Mr. and Mrs. Hersbner will at tend the national Christian Endeavor convention in San Francisco from July 7th to 18th. It is estimated that 15,000 Christian Endeavorers will be in at tendance. Mr. Hersbner's family left yesterday for Monmouth, where Mrs. Hershuer's parents reside. An alarm of fire yesterday at 1 o'clock brought out the volunteer fire brigade in quick time. A defective flue in the residence of Postmaster Yates threat ened a conflagration. A hole was out in the roof and the fire was soon ex tinguished by willing hands. . On July 8d, 4th and 5th, the O. R. & JN. The Dalles was selected as the place for holding the encampment next year. The post office was moved Thursday to the Middleton building, formerly occupied by Mrs. Thompson's iriilli nery store. New mail boxes have been put in, and everything about the new office has 'a neat and tidy appearance. Mr. Joseph Frazier plowed up his old strawberry patch Wednesday. He found the ground in fine condition for plowing after the snaking rain of Mon dny night. He will replant to straw berries next fall. Harry Btryker of The Dalles subbed for H. A.
