A. lempletou at Belmont. W. E. Neff is improving his place at the forks of Hood River by putting up good buildings and clearing the land. Dr. Eliot left Thursday for a trip to the coast', The effort of the Rod and Gun club to protect the fish and game met with serious setbacks during the week. Nev ertheless, t bey 'were commendable. The president of the club, and the prosecuting witness in the suits in the justice court, believed the saw mill men were violating the law and caused their arrest. The defense showed to the juries that they had made an effort to keep the sawdust out of the streams. The juries were not disposed to convict men who are furnishing employment to labor when it was shown that they had taken precautions to not disobey the law.
