Hon. E. L. Smith moved to amend by substituting live for seven, which, after some debate, was adopted, and the mo tion as amended passed. A general discussion of school matters followed, and a motion was made to the effect that it was the sense of the citizens of the district that the directors open the school as soon as arrangements could be made, and, that they employ the present teachers. She Got. the Sugar. The season of t he year has come again when the. human digestive apparatus demands vegetables and pines for the early onion and the incarnadine radish. This longing is not confined to tho proud Caucasian, but is equally strong in the perfumed deniaeil of the rude shanty, by poetical license called a wig wam. Our old friend, (Jultus Dave, made an early morning call recently, plaintively and pathetically recapit ulating the dread effects of the demon etization of silver and the threatened reduction in the tariff on huckleberries, on th aboriginal industries, stating that his finances were gone, his credit ruined and his aged wife, who lias he roically borne all of Dave's burdens, now longed for a change of food. Her stomach, for the second time in four years, revolts at being made a ware house for. dried salmon, and demands sugar. We felt for Dave, and realized that the two bits that kept one another company in the depths of our pants pocket were doomed; but still we made a bold stand an d trild to convince our brunette friend that lie could sweeten the old lady much more cheaply with soda.. Arguments were useless, for Dave's love for the woman who has gathered his berries, digged his cam mas and ministered to liiscomfortsinee Cornwallis surrendered to the great white chief At Yorktown, has grown with his growth and strengthened with his strength until you can smell it, even when the weather is not sultry, would not admit of defeat. His wife wanted sugar, and Dave waa going to have it, and after we had tried- 'o get rid of him for three hours unsuccess fully, he got. the coin, but he left with us as a token of his gratitude the last suunt he had.
