The meeting of Oregon's democratic clubs at The Dalles, Tuesday, Was the event of the season for our neighboring town. Front a democratic standpoint it was a peculiarly harmonious meet ing, for the reason that the factions had their quarrel out, settled it, and went home the best of friends. The meeting was organized by selecting M, V. Har rison temporary chairman and Robert Hayden temporary secretary. After the report of the committee on creden tials, a committee on order of business and another on resolutions were ap pointed, the latter consisting of Messrs. Bennett, Blythe, Mallay, O'Brien and Gates. The fight over the election of a president of the club organization waxed hot, the figh't being confined to the Multnomah county delegations, the Jefl'ersoniaus nominating J. J. Kelly and Tammany standing by Geo. P. Chamberlain, not caring for any thing except to beat Kelly. After a bitter struggle some of the country del egation got the leaders of the factions in a side room and secured a compro mise on S. B. Huston. This proved to be the end of the troubles, and the resolutions, although discussed some what, were passed almost unanimously. They read as follows: ' ' ' ' , Whereas, There has been a studied attempt on the part of the republican press aud party leaders to falsely repre sent that the present financial depres sion is owing to t tie democratic control of.the national administration; and Whereas, , We fully believe that said financial crisis is the natural result of a long system of republican misrule, where the many have been taxed for the benefit of the few, and the wealth of the country taken from the masses for the few, by the unjust and iniqui tous tariff system; now, therefore, be it Resolved, That in the opinion of this association a restoration of the blightid prosperity of the country can only be seemed by the modification or repeal of the taritf which has brought about our condition, and especially the obnoxious McKinley tariff, he enactment' thereof 'of such laws as' shall tend to a more equal distribution of the wealth of the country and a restoration to the masses of the common people of a more just .proportion thereof; and be it fur ther ' ' . Resolved, That in this connection we heartily approve of the proposed enact ment by congress af a law providing f.ir the raising of a portion of the rev enues of the country by a tax upon the Incomes of the wealthy and opulent. ' Resolved; That we, the representa' tives of vthe state association of demo cratic, clubs, in session assembled, do reaffirm allegiance to We' principles of the party as formulated by Jefferson und exemplified by the iong and illus trious line of his successors in demo cratic ' leadership, from Madison to Cleveland. ; Resolved, That we warn the people of our common country, jealous for the preservation of their free institutions, that the policy , of federnl control of elections to which the republican party lias committed itself is fraught with the gravest dangers, scarcely less mo mentous than would result from a rev. "olution practically establishing a mon archy on the ruins of a republic. Resolved, .That the present time is ripe for perfecting the organization of the democratic party of the state of Oregon, and in so doing to embrace within its fold all who will join it in the patriotic effort to resist the many abuses of the party in power in this state, by repealing the laws- that are unjust and oppressive, and substituting in their places others making the taxes lighter, and giving laws that will check the centralization of power in the in terest of corporations and will bring the capitalist and wage-earner stability and permanency that will secure product ive investment to the first and constant employment to the latter. Resolved, .That we denounce that at tempt o.f the republican majority of the last legislature of Oregon to destroy the Australian ballot law, and we com mend the patriotic course of Hon. C.H. Woodward, the republican senator who has dared to vote against the decree of the republican caucus on this question. Resolved, That we recommend to the consideration of the voters of Oregon the system of legislation known as the initiative and referendum. Resolved, That we favor the passage of a law providing that non-residents shall , not serve as peace officers in the settlement of a6ordisputes, and that the Pjnkertou and olisr private police shall be prohibited. ..?.' Resolved, That we condemn as un patriotic and un-American any organ ization, secret or otherwise, which seeks to apply a religious test as a qual ification for holding office. Resolvtd That we approve of the S stem of distributing such of the pub lic institutions of the state among dif ferent sections thereof, so far ns the same can be done without impairing the efficiency or economy of their management- And in this connection we approve of the act of the , last legisla ture providing for a soldiers' home in Southern Oregon and an insane asy lum iu Eastern Oregon; and , Resolved, further,' That the building of these institutions and' the erection of the jute mills at Baietri will provide much-needed work for the unemployed in our. state; that we favor the speedy construction of the same. The automatic bobbin winder winds all sizes of thread on the bobbin a8 easily as a spool of thread is wound, without caro or attention on the part of the operator, except to keep the treadlo ttfoving. Ov.'iny to the machine having whut is termed a tight and loose wheel, the bobbin' can be -wound without running the working parts of the machine. . This is quite an advantage, as it does not necessitate re moving the goods from underneath the presser 1 foot, or even unthreading the machine. The needle is short and straight, thus insur ing great strength : it Is also self -sotting, re quiring no caro on the part of the operator. The pressure on tho sowing foot is adjustable, and when tho foot is raised to removo the work from the machine, it brings into play tho au tomatic tension release. rf hlsf tiltes the ten sion from tho thread, and tho goods can be re moved from tho machine without; bending the needle or breaking the thread. Every operator on old style machines will appreciate this.
