We received Tuesday from Mr. S. C
Teslevln of Chicago il sample of the
matcriil of which the eorinees, orna
ments, tablets ami other decorations of
thi' world's fair building are being
made, it Is of snowy whiteness, ami
Mr Tostevln says, presents il daz.ll-ig
sight when the sun is Miming n it. It
is of the plaster of pans Myle nnd easily
molded into any shape.
The rorltautl exposition this year is
better titan ever, and that is saying a
great ileal. If you take the little folks,
w h'cli volt Mo-iiM iln. don't forget to
lake t lieni in io he "hall of Illusions"
and aiso into the "little world." The
latter Is a puppet show, but certainly n
very wonderful one, the little tlgures
moving naturally and the machinery,
which moves them, being entirely con
cealed. C. T. Henltl took the premium nt the
IWtlaud exposition for largest nnd best
exhibit of apples grown by exhibitor.
The prize was ftio sprayer. Henry
l'rigge took the premium for best three
plates of npples. It seems that some
of the fruit sent down got scattered in
such ii way that llood Liver did not
receive due credit for It. As it was, tin
llootl Hiver apples led the display by a
long distance.
The Underwood brothers have com
pleted n mad from the mouth of the
White Salmon to intersect the present
mad three miles from the mouth of the
river. When they get in a bridge to
connect tho roads, which they intend
doing this fall, it will shorten the mini
from Trout lake ami Camillas prairie
four miles. The lauding nt the mouth
of the While Salmon is a good one, and
the opening of the new road will have
n tendency to divert some if not all of
tho travel from the present road.
There were moi'o transfers of real es
tate here this week than for ti month
previous. Besides the Land hnlf block
nnd Mrs. Hull's place, which we men
tion elsewhere, J. E. Fenk sold ten
acres to Mr. Keeder, Virgil Winebell
sold forty acres to Mrs. Louisa Reed,
wlio in turn sold ten acres to l'.enjainin
H. Winters, and several other trans
fers, of which wo are not fully in
formed, were made. Evidently the
prospect of getting water for irrigating
purposes has set the real estate market
to moving.
It seems that the town is just now
the most deeply interested of any sec
tion in the water question. Captain
Coo tells us that nex t year ho will not
furnish water for irrigation purposes,
and this means that our lawns are to
be dried up and our flower gardens an
Impossibility. If the west side ditch is
built it will give the town an .ibun
daiico of water, not only for irrigating
purposes, but for fire protection. This
latter would cause a marked reduction
in insurance rates. Wo want to stand
in, all of as.
