the poetic visions of a land of delight
which Honduras has been pictured,
have vanished, ami tiial Mr. and Mrs.
HowcIIh will probably return to Ore
gon. Friday evening tho Relief Corps gave
a pleiisaiit reception to Dr. and Mrs.
Thomas at the K. of T. hall. A large
number of their friends were present.

missed and the feature of regret on the

farewell meeting. The best wishes of
their large circle of friends go with

This county can now boast live
newspapers, the latest venture being
tho Dul'ur Dinimtrh published as its
name suggest at tiie charming little
town of Duf'ur. We have not had tlie
pleusuro of seeing a copy, but it being
conducted by a veteran in the business
is proof HUllleient tliat Dufur will have
a good little paper. Dul'ur is one of
the prettiest places in Fastem Oregon,
und being surrounded by a rich agri
cultural country is.abundautly able to
support a paper.
North Dalles has had a real lively
time during tlie week, caused by an
attempt on the part of Z. T. Wright
& Co. of Portland to remove some ma
chinery from tho shoo factory there.
Rev. O. D. Taylor claims to own the
machinery and hired a lot of lighters to
prevent the machinery being taken
away.' Justice of tho Peace Uilmore
was called in to quell the disturbance,
nnd did ho by commanding both par
ties to disperse. At present tho sheriff
of Klickitat county is iu charge, but
the end is not vet.
Lust week the pupils in A Geogra
phy class, of Protessor Snyder's room
hud u contest in map drawing. Re
lug one of the judges wo had an ex
cellent opportunity of examining the
work and were surprised-ut the general
excellence thereof. The process of eli
mination left four maps between which
the judges had considerable difficulty
in deciding, but finally gave their
decision iu favor of Number 4, which
was drawn by Dell Rand. Number 5
which wua given points us having the
most correctly located mountaiu
ranges was drawn by Frank Jones;
lowuieh had most correctly located
rivers was drawn by Howard Isenuerg;
and 8 which wus decided to bo the
neutest Wus the work of Hulda Run-kin.
