As we understand the pivRf.ition almut all that w ill be nked by the company is the right of way, and the agreement to pay a small iimouut upon the ditch reaching a cer tain t-u.gv; this amount to be credited on the water account of the parties ii.lviincing it w hen the ditch U com j n'ted. The object is not so much to t-ei iiie money paid, as to secure the ! ottuse to use at least a small amount oi lite water. 1 Ins is the goliton op-1 the goods are l.ew and the suits of immunity and hhould be seized by all. At Knsenado, the allowance w uieu is said to be abuudant, i9 one iueu of water for three acres, and in oiuer districts the amount is placed even us low us one inch to ten acres. It will be khhi from this that at one Uoilar jier month per inch, which would be the maximum charge, the vosi of irrigation per acre for three iiiumo!-, (which would be as long us lieeuciiiu most eases) would be one u,.Uui-. It is worth that much to see toe water run. To discuss the vast jiiDUiuihties of the valley with a -luoruugh irrigation system is not the oojeoi of this article. Its benefits are iiicalcuable, and we sincerely hope that vveiy li.nd ow ner in the valley will do ail in his power to make it, what it snuuld be, a unanimous success. The light of way, and good will is about all that is asked by those proposing to construct the ditch, and feurely we call do no less, than to grant both freeiy. The Glaciku is more than pleased to ee that its tltbrts towards getting the waters of Hood river brought through the valley are in a fair way to be suc sctatiful, tue whole matter now resting with our land owners. The money is ready for the work, and the only re quisile now is that the people meet the projectors of the enterprise iu a spirit of tairuess. If this is done the ditch is assured, if it is not, it may be years betore another opportunity, is offered. We hope and believe that every man iu the valley will respond gladly and that the right of way will be giveti without the asking. With the com pletion of this ditch Hood river valley vlIl begin a new era, an era of pros ijerity uneiiualled by any place in the north west. THE PC1UTAX JiEXAISSAXCE. A dispatch from Pittsburg Penn. on the 14th inst. says: " The yaubatariau society lias ueceued to inaugurate a war omne ouaaay newspapers. Captain Wisnart, president of tlie Law and Or der Society, will have charge of the movement, and next Satuniay night will arrest all editors, leporters, com positors autt pressmen found working alter midnight. If the papers are pub iis'ied Sunday morning the carriers and newsboys will also be arrested. It is the intention also to arrest newspaper men, it they begin to work Sunday night before 12 o'clock. inis is the idea of that class of people who believe in doing as they think they should, and compelling others to to do as they do. Of thosewho claim tue right to do as they please, and deny that privilege to those who do not a gree with them. The Sunday news paper will come out of the tight on top. ii not, let the theory be carried to its legithuuie conclusion. Let every rail road car be tied up sit midnight Satur day, hotels and restaurants close at the iiie hour; no beds be made for tned Christians until after midnight Sunday. Let the Atlantic steamships ba.,k their fires, and the merchant ma nnelurl their sails at midnigntSatuiv day. Let the sick be unattended, lest the well be made to labor. Let the church bells cease their clangor, since it lakes labor to ring them, and addi tional labor to obey their call. Let the minister be stopped from preaching lor by his labor on that day he earns bread; and let the utilitarian and in trusive collection box hide its worldly lonu on that day.
