COUNTY OFFICIAL PAPER
CIRCUIjATICN 610
riEKCE FOUND fil'ILTT.
A. P. Pierce, Joe Broiijii and E. S. Wilson charged
with teing aeoi'iniliefs in an assault on V. C. Fischer
May 3, were tried in th-circuit court Monday. Pierce
tv a found guilty as charged and sentence will be
pronounced toiay. Urolith and Wilson escaped on a
technical point of law. This however has not removed
from the minds of the people the guilt of the.- two
culprits. The evidence ajj iinst Pierce wa c!ear and
conclusive. Upon the evidence brought out in the
case the law in this state is inadequate to punish
Tierce sufficiently for such a dastardly and cowardly
wcrk. Such men ought to be exiled to such countries
as Russia when? free t-peech is a crime. Fischer with
the Editor has dared to speai against wholesale law
breaking in Rainier and in consequence must tike a
brutal beating at the hands of thugs and criminals-
Notwithstanding the fact tlut Brough and Vils n
were acquitted Tuesday by the jury on a technicality
of the law there is no doub in the minds of all who
heard the evidence that they were guilty. It is also
beleived by a maj rity of the citixens of Rainier that
these are enly a part of the ring that is guilty. Time
will fcrrit out all the guilty and it is to be hoped all
will e brought to justice.

The proposed amendment fo the Ical Option Law .
was prepared and is pushed by the Wholesale Liquor
Dealers' Association.
It amends the first section. REPEALS the next ten
sections and substitutes new sections therefor, and
REPEALS the last seven sections, which sections pro
vide for tne enforcement of the law.
The proposed amendment, in a deceptive manner,
REPEALS the present Local Option Law and subr
stitutes a liquor law.
The title of the amendment would lead voters to
beleive tiiat the amendment would give equal privl?
leges to local optionists and anti-local aptionists, when
in fact the amendment emasculates and virtually,
REPEALS the present law.
THE OREGON DAILY JOURNAL speaks of the
amendment as a,porcupine wrapped in a blanket."
