several public bulldiugs and a large
number or residence. The lights are
giving good satisfaction.
Instead of building a hotel as at first
contempluted, John Dibblee will

stairs, and put two large rooms on the

for the Review's dumbness Elyism.
This goes to show that the Review ia
not an organ devoted to Rainier's in
terests, but it is devoted mainly to pro
mote EL-Y l-S-M,and the interests of
the Raiuier Liquor Dealers Association
aud their joint and several schemes.

comments or discussion of those ques
tions iu which eveiy real friend of Rai
nier delights. The petty envy which
shuts out of its columns, news items,
like the above which any live paper
would be only to glad to print, ia
accounted to the Review for righteous
neps by its associates of the Liquor
Dealers Aaaociatiou. No wonder the
real friends of Rainier are disgusted
at the attitude of the Review.

Senator Gearin does well to come
home to register and so avoid any possi
bility of illegality or irregularity if he
should be elected to the senate, as he
may possibly be. Nobody will censure
or even criticue him for takiuir this
precaution. Oregon has important in
terests to look after at Washington, to
be sure, but they are now apparently
in very good shape, and Senator Gear
in can be spared for the eight or ten
days necewsary to come home aud regis
ter. Perhaps he will not be elected, yet a
great many people iu Oregon, regard
less of politics, are going to vote for him.
He is a man in the ripe prime of life.
He is au aide lawyer. He has in him
the element of statesmanship. He ia
a clean, conscientious, capable mau.
If occasion otters he is an orator, a
better one than Dolliveror Lodge. He
ia a man in whom Oregon aud the
nation can take pride.
Perhaps,' probably we may say. Sen
ator Gearin will not be elected. He is
a Democrat, and that ia considered by
some a haudicap; but, reitlly, which
would decent people rather have in the
senate John M. Gearin, Democrat, or
