The funeral service wos conducted by
llev. Daniel 11. Gray, of Portland, as
slated by Key. Jones, former pastor ot
l'ie Cotigregaiional church. Ills re
mains were laid to rest In tho family
burying ground in Scnppowo cemetery.
The funeral was largely attended by
ciliaens from all parts of the county.
The little chapcl, which was appro
priately drned in mourning, was tilled
with earnest sympathizers of the rela
tives of deceased,
Last Monday morning the Northern
Tiuiflc nil way company, with a gang of
fifty men, commenced tho construction
of 1MX) feet of sidetrack, commencing at
or near the Clark crossing, south of Mil
ton creek, and extending southward on
their right of way. The new siding will
be used to accomoduto the pausing trains
and will greatly facilitate tratlk. The
Xorthcoast Limited will then reach Tort
land ten minutes earlier than it does at
present. Trains will then past here in
stead of at Columbia, City.
