The color, the taste, the shape may be; but the size, ye gods! they were as big as cantalbupes. And when your dandy.' daughter, Anna, brought some in to us we just sat back in our $465 mahogany and gasped. The best we have ever seen and brought in by one o f the best girls in Oregon. Thanks Anna. Mr. Mattson donated 5 gallons and they went in a “ jiffy .” His plant is between Woodburn and Hubbard and we suggest that you stop there and take home some Of- the best ice. cream ever made. We are deep ly grateful to Mr. Mattson f o r his splendid donation. As per suggestion. W ould it not be a good idea fo r the Sa lem Chamber of Commerce to visit some o f the surrounding towns and get acquainted ? True, we see at every commun ity gathering the old reliable Salem boosters, C. E. Wilson, Henry Crawford and Senator Reynolds, but why not the w h o le /‘blooming army” o f you. Bring your fine Cherrian band along as we did our dandy one when we visited Salem, and shake hands with some of- this splendid talent Which enter tained you last winter in the Cherry City. Only .a sugges tion, mind you, but at times suggestions are good things for all o f us. And then again you are dependent in no small measufe on the small towns. Dear Dr. Riley: Quality—Service I want to tell you that I enjoyed | the program at Playmore Park last L. A. MILLER, Manager Phone 4902 night very much. It was interesting from start to finish. I think the work o f -the County;-}} Federation is very important because I it brings together such a fine group of people. It is worthwhile fo r the f e l - f lowship alone and then too it develops friendship and cooperation that will be beneficial to our whole Willamette valley. This cooperation I can see would help to bring about better busi ness conditions, it ought to help raise : the Educatoinal Standards and the Spiritual Standards, too, because no one could listen to a talk Tike Mr. Irvine’s and go away without being bette^ for it. I can see how it would help the conditions of the boys and girls for, Monday, Septem ber 3 —A ll day and night to my mind, they are o f tremendous importance and while the Willamette valley boastsr o f its .wonderful crops o f fruit and agricultural products the greatest crop is its boys and girls that are growing into young manhood and young womanhood and after all it isn’t o f a great profit to a community with the New deLespinasse O rchestra-R eal Music to have material prosperity without strengthening the character o f - its youth.
