S ection two THE HUBBARD ENTERPRISE HIGH SCHOOL NOTES On the first Monday o f September 1920, ten Seniors entered the Hubbard High school. They with much initia tive and act, worked faithfully for nine long months in order that they might reach the final goal. It is true,' no doubt, that the per sonal attention given them by the faculty, and through their own am bition to make good, they h a v e achieved much. Everything moved along v e r y smoothly during the school year, ev erybody having passed all examina tions, and now, at last, the end is nearly here. On Friday evening May 27, the commencement exercises will be held at the High school auditorium,. at i eight o ’ clock sharp. Everybody is cordially invited to attend. Now that the Seniors are about to part from these sunny-foot-falls, we wish to thank the entire community fo r the support they have given usi W e are proud to say that Hubbard and community have backed up this school on every occasion and propo sition we have undertaken. W e ap preciate this attitude, and hope that the school will even be more success ful in the years to come. In thé fall o f last year the Hubbard school opened it ’s doors on the thir teenth o f September, the lucky date fo r Hubbard Hi. During the months that have, past the school has taken iipon itself tq out-do everything that has gone before in the way o f school activities, business, athletics, etc. For our success we ask you to glance back over the past year, over the records whieh the school ha3 made and the efficiency it has attained. W e,first began with foot ball; tho late in the season our boys went after it with the spirit that wins and as a consequent result we finished w i t h the high average o f 667. The back field men were strong on line bucks and endruns while the line was one o f the best that' has yet represented our Alma Mater. I A fter foot ball the squad sallied forth to make a record in basket ball. Under the coaching o f W olfer we were, brought around into shape by the first o f the year and piled up victory after victory with such regu larity that the people began t o think that it was a habit. W e beat such teams as Independence, Milwaukio, and even held the fast Woodbuvn quintet to a 16 to 8 score. After about two months ò f p! ¡tying we fin ished by trouncing Milwankie 16 to 9 thus ending the season with a bat ting average o f 577. Not only did the boys play this game but look at the record the girls o f the school made during the past year. Every team that they come up against were taken down the line by such enormous scores that it would be a crime to publish them. They played all the schools in the valley and fin ished with an average o f 1000 which speakes fo r itself when it comes to a question o f their ability to play. Tw o literary societies were organ ized in the High school and many were the lively debates that poured forth from the youthful minds o f the aspiring scholars. A great deal o f good was accomplished from these de bates in the way o f training the peo ple to stand before an audience and expound and expostulate on certain properties and propensities relating to a precarious condition o f this pro miscuous burg. Outside o f the regular course o f study there was installed during the last half o f the year a cooking and sewing club which has been heard o f for far and near. Every one knows o f the demonstration which was given at the hall some time in the past. Those who were there can testify to the success o f the club by the exper ience they had eating some o f the grub which was cooked by members of' the club. W e regret that owing to the weath er we have had very little chance to play much base ball, but leaving all o f our mishaps aside we journeyed to Woodburn fo r our first game and played them a three hit affair fo r 9 long innings. As we are contemplat ing playing some more a complete re port o f our average at this time is impossible. Taking everything together we feel like this has been a very prosperous year fo r Old Hubbard Hi. W ith the publishing o f the Annual and other various activities we say without any hesitancy that we are proud o f our school and o f what it has been doing during the past nine months. Even now, as some o f us are leav ing the school we leave with the hope that next year will find a larger, big ger and better one than Hubbard has ever known. . < As this is the last publication o f the High school in the Hubbard Enter prise for this year we one and all wish to thank each and everyone o f you for your support and help dur ing the past year and htipe that in some way your worthy, ¡efforts will be repaid in the near future and that the success o f the school will continue from now on indefinitely as we are sure it will as long as the school and the community pull together and help one another— but when this . fails something disastrous is’ sure to hap pen, for, “ united we-stand, divided we fa ll,” and .when wei divide someth ing is sure to fall.
