Eight Hurt as
4 Cars Collide
YREKA Eight persons, four
of them members of a Medford
family, were injured in a four
car collision on U.S. 99 about
eight miles south of here Friday
evening.
All of the injuries were re
ported as minor.
The driver of one of the cars
involved, Phillip Lawrence
Fach, 56, of Calgary, Alberta,
Canada, was later lodged in
Siskiyou County Jail on a charge
of hit and run.
The California Highway Pa
trol reported that Fach left the
scene of the accident. A road
block was set up at Weed and
j 'he man was apprehended there
by Weed police.

St., Medford, Patricia Bills, 26,
Bradley Bills, 4, and Betsy
1 Bills, 2, and Willie Henry Tap
lin, 40, of Seattle, Mamie Tap-
i lin, 42, Ronald Taplin, 15, and
j Vaughn Taplin, 16.
I All were taken to Siskiyou
County Hospital, where three
members of the Taplin family
remained overnight. The others
were treated and released.
The accident, reported at 6:15
p.m., involved cars driven by
Bills, Taplin, Fach and Ray
mond John Wood, 22, of Happy
Camp.
Dean Vincent, Noted
Portland Realtor, Dies
PORTLAND (UPI) - Funeral
will be held Tuesday for Dean
Vincent, 83, a prominent Port
land realtor who died in a hos
pital here Friday.
Dog Licenses Are On Sale in County
MONDAY. DECEMBER 30, 1963
Dog licenses for 1964 are now
on sale at the office of the Jack
son County clerk in the court
house and at the County Dog
Pound, 5595 S. Pacific Highway.
Fees continue the same this
year with a charge of $2 for
males and $3 for females.
The final date for purchasing
the licenses will be on March
1. Following that date, licenses
include a penalty making the
cost $4 or S5.
Owners of young dogs are re
quired to purchase a license
when the animal has acquired
Increase Due for
Jobless Insurance
SALEM (UPI) Maximum
unemployment insurance bene
fits will be increased $4 to $44
a week, and the minimum will
be raised $5 to $20 a week on
Jan. 1, the State Employment
Department reminded today.
It was estimated the increased
benefits would cost about $500,
000 a year.
On Dec. 20 the unemployment
Insurance trust fund had a bal
ance of $72.1 million, compared
to $56.1 million at the same
time last year.

Still Hospitalized

neth Oswald, 27, of Riley Road,
Eagle Point, is still confined to
Josephine General Hospital for
treatment of injuries he suffered
in an auto accident nine days
ago.
Oswald's condition this morn
ing was listed as fair. He spent
a fairly good night, a hospital
spokesman said.
Oswald was injured in a Dec.
21 accident on U. S. 199 north of
Kerby which took the life of
another Eagle Point man, James
Lew Harrington, 35. Oswald wss
a passenger in Harrington's car.
State police and sheriff's dep
uties reported at the time that
Oswald suffered broken arm
and shoulder.
