44-year-old dock worker, alive
because Tulane University doc
tors transplanted the kidneys of
a champanzee into his body,
spent Christmas day in a hos
pital. The same doctors who saved
Jefferson Davis' life with the
transplant kept him in the hos
pital today fearing inclement
weather might give him a cold,
or perhaps pneumonia, if he
were to leave.
Davis was to have been re
leased for Christmas. j
He went home for two days
last week after spending more I
than a year in hospitals and
promptly developed a head cold.
Doctors explained drugs used
to prevent Davis' body from re
jecting the foreign kidneys had ,
lowered nis resistence to intec
lion.
