chosen the best film of 1SH53 by
the National Board of Review
ot motion pictures.
The board also chose the di
rector of "Tom Jones," Tony
Richardson, the year's best.
Italian Director Fedcrico Fel
lini's "W was chosen the best
foreign - language motion pic
ture. The 43rd annual selections of
the board picked six American
and four British films as the
year's ten best. Three Italian,
one Swedish and one French
film made up the selection of
the best five foreign language
pictures.

Berserk Man
Kills Children
DENVER (UP1) - A Denver
man went berserk this Christ
mas morning, killing two of his
children with a shotgun as they
sat on the living room couch
amid their new toys, then slash
ing himself to death with a
butcher knife.
His wife, his brother and two
other children were spared
when the gun jammed after the
first two shots were fired. De
tective Jack Groginsky said the
man, Walter R. Giblett, 53, ap
parently had been having busi
ness troubles "and just
snapped."
The shotgun victims wore
Douglas J. Giblett, 12, and Ruth
Ann, 8. When police arrived,
their pajnma-elad bodies were
on the couch.
Giblett was on the kilchen
floor, wilh stub wounds in his
stomach, throat and wrists.
His wife, Ruth, told Grogin
sky that she and another son,
Tom, 17, wrestled the gun away
from Giblett after it jammed
and then he got the knife in the
kitchen. She said he had threat
ened to kill them all.
The killings occurred shortly
after midnight. The Giblett
home is in a fashionable area
of cast Denver.
