We Fornct About Nature
Thankful we are that there
are still paths yet unexplored
and questions still unanswered;
that we can still stand in as
tonished amazement at the
miracles that exist on every
hand, and that man still has
hopes for a greater and even
more glorious tomorrow. Not in
what he has done, but in what
he hopes to do. Wo are thankful
that the world has the soft, eye
soothing coolness of green,
growing things: that flowers
blossom and birds sing; that
the sun shines and that the
night comes and hides, for a
little while, the scars that have
been made on earth's face.
Thankful we should be that
the rain falls and renews the
soil-magic that will bring forth
and feed a liny plant, and in
the mystery of growth, warmth
and time, develop into a tree
or a flower with all the hope
fulness of future life. We are
grateful that there is more
magic, and mystery and accom
plishment in the metamorphosis
of an ugly worm turning into
the exquisite beauty of a moth,
than in the most expensive TV
set that will ever be made.

greatness and wonder in the
mysterious life - force, hidden
away in a tiny seed no larger
than a printed period, than in
a computing machine or an
electronic brain. Within the seed
is the force that releases a se
ries of never-ending and intri
cate reactions that can go on
and on.

and others like it there never
rould have been an atom bomb.
In that seed, or in an even
smaller sperm, there is a con
tinuity of countless millions of
intricate and complicated mir
acles. In these seemingly sim
ple objects is the power of re
newed life, that means more to
the future of the world than any
machine man will ever make.
At times we must stand in
slupified wonder and admiration
at the close inspection of a ra
darscopc or a jet-engine. We
may become starry eyed at the
electronic brain or of a sewing
machine that will sew zigzag.
We read of the destrucliveness
of a superbomb, thinking that
man has accomplished a mir
acle. Actually there is nothing mi
raculous about it; they arc only
sillv machines. They cannot
think, reason, or recreate them
selves. At best they arc only
piles of organized junk, that
can. under the hand of a think
ing being, perform certain
ihinne Tlmv have no feeling.
no initiative. Without the living
being to push the button they
are onlv senseless metal, wood
or plastic. They are stupid and
ungiftcd.
We mav look at a radar
screen and think it wonderful,
but it must have seeing eyes to
look or it means nothing. Be
side a man. a monkey, a mouse,
or even a beetle, even a guided
missile is as simple as a paper

magic in a mouse than in any
machine, for no machine is a
miracle.
So we should be thankful that
now and tomorrow and all Ihe

is and always will be a sperm
or a seed, which contains all
the promise of continued life.
Man will continue to make ma
chines, but only God can create
