Students in all grades at Jack
son School are making gifts for
Christmas, such things as jew
elry boxes, Santa Clauses, little
deer, and angels.
At Jackson School we are
having the upstairs department
team rooms painted. Some of
the primary rooms arc to be
painted, too. Our cloakrooms
are light and easier to find our
coats.
Students and teachers of the
second and third grades pre
sented a Christmas play called,
"Do You Believe In Santa
Claus?" Despite the fog and 35
degree weather, a large audi
ence of parents attended t h e
program.
The library has a new look.
It has been painted a blue-green
color. There are many new and
good books in the library and an
interesting bulletin board.
The PTA has a treat for every
child at Jackson School. T h e
treats will be delivered by Santa
Claus. (Rumor has it that Santa
might be our PTA president.)
In the cafeteria there is a
beautiful decorated tree and red
bells, and there is a big Santa
Claus on the wall.
There are individually decor
ated Christmas trees in each
class room. Many of the decora
, tions were made by the s t u
rients. Each room had its own
Christmas party from 1:30 to 2
p.m. Friday, Dec. 20.

Violence Stuns
Arkansas Town
For Second Time
TRUMMAN, Ark. (UPI) '
Death, violent and bizarrp, has
struck this northeastern Arkan
sas cotton town of 4,500 persons
twice within a month. Eleven
are dead.
A 53-year-old former tailor
and convict in Missouri was
held today for questioning in
the six latest deaths, caused by
fire.
Frank Harris of Jonesboro de
nied he had anything to do with
the fiery tragedy. Authorities
were awaiting the results of au
topsies, a paraffin test and in
formation found by state fire in
vestigators. Sheriff Ray Holmes of Poin
sett County said he would turn
over all his information to the
district prosecutor today.
Trumman residents, accus
tomed to reading mostly about
community progress, were vis
ibly stunned and the edge of the
Christmas holiday was dulled.
But they were responding over
whelmingly to salvage the
Christmas season for the two
small survivors of the latest
tragedy.
Mrs. and Mrs. Leonard Dever
and their four daughters, ages
8 to 1, were burned beyond rec
ognition late Friday night in a
fire. The surviving children said
the fire was set deliberately by
a man who shot their parents
to death.
The children said their father,
42, quarrelled with the assailant
about a billfold shortly before
the shootings. The children said
they fled through a back door
and the killer ran out a front
door.
The tragedy happened 30 davs
after Sammy Penter, a farmer
who lived about four miles
from the Dcvers, murdered his
wife, stepdaughter, mother-in-law
and sister-in-law then killed
himself in a violent climax to
the child's birthday party.
Ronald Dever, 9, and his sis
ter, Mary, 6, who ran barefoot
a mile and a half through 14
degree cold as their home
burned, were swamped today
with Christmas presents, cloth
ing and money from the grieved
residents of the Trumman area.
