Mrs. Kennedy, I
Children Arrive !
In Palm Beach
PALM BEACH, Fla. (UPH
The widow of President John F.
Kennedy and her two young
children arrived at the scene of
some of the family's happiest
limns Wednesday nifihl for a
"quiet and sad" Christmas.
B 1 a e k-clad Mrs. Jacqueline
Kennedy, Caroline, 6, and John
Jr., :!. flew to this winter re
sort from Washington on an Air
Force jot. They were accom
panied by Princess Lee Radzi
will, Mrs. Kennedy's sister, and
several Secret Servicemen.
The family stepped from the
plane into a waiting car and
went directly from the West
Palm Beach airport to the
walled-in, seaside mansion of
C. Michael Paul, leased last
year by the Kennedys.
Sharp Contrast
The arrival was in sharp con
trast in last year's gathering of
I he Kennedys here for the
Christmas holidays. On that oc
casion, Mrs. Kennedy and the
children met the President on
his relurn from a conference in
Nassau with Harold Macmillan
who at that time was British
foroicn minis'.cr.
Hundreds of spectators had
watched as Kennedy greeted
his wife, scooped Caroline and
John Jr. into his arms and
walked happilv to a big. white
ronverliWe which Caroline. In
the rtdisltl of the crowd, helped
her father steer out of the air
purl .
Quiet. Sad May
The return of the slain Presi
dent's family was their first
since a reunion of the Kennedy
clan here last Faster.
"Christmas will be a quiet
and sad day for the rest of us,
hut for the children's sake, San
la Clans will come," sad a
family spokesman.
Miss Ann Gargan, niece of
former ambassador Joseph P.
Kennedy, the late President's
father, said the children would
open their presents at the Paul
home Christmas morning and
then go to their grandfather's
house for a private Mass and
dinner.
Tile elder Kennedy's ncean
sirle villi is about a mile south
of the Paid mansion where the
la'e President and his family
relaNed in the sun in periodic
escapes from Washington winters.
