Hedrick Junior High
The ninth grade boys' rooting
section has been organized
again this year to help cheer
our team on to victory at bas
ketball games.
The boys who spearheaded
the organization were Spence
Webber, Les Bush, Craig Coop
er and Kuss f erguson. Faculty
advisor for the group is Dennis
Bateman.
There are about 25 members
In the group. Dour Johnson is
sergeant of arms, Spence Web
ber is president, Les Bush is
vice president, and Russ Fer
guson is faculty coordinator.
The annual canned food drive
is now on at Hedrick. Students
are bringing cans of food to
their home rooms to be turned
over to the Salvation Army for
distribution. The Red Cross is
helping in the promotion of the
canned food drive.
A Christmas program will be
presented Wednesday evening
by the Hedrick Junior High or
chestra and chorus. The orches
tra is directed by John Drys
dale, the seventh grade chorus

3, 1917, she was married to Er
nest L. Ruth, who died in 1953.
Survivors include one daugh

Ruth, Ashland. Ore., Ernest C.
Ruth, Santa Barbara, Calif.;
two sisters, Mrs. Eunice Cole,
Ashland, Mrs. Tanny S. Wilder,
Orland. Calif., and four grand

Mr. Lealherman was born
Nov. 16, 1!H0, in Alexandria,
Minn., and had been employed
for a number of years by the
Medford Corporation. He is
survived by two brothers, Wal
ter H. Leatherman, Bruce, Wis.;
and Irvin A. Leatherman,
Groveland, Calif.; and a half
sister. Mrs. Marie Boerner,
Pasadena, Calif.
Mrs. Leatherman was born
Aug. 24, 1(103, in Winger, Minn.
Her survivors include six sis
ters. Mrs. Olga Thies, Mrs. Hil
da Einess, Mrs. Amanda Scncg
slad, Mrs. Sophia Olson, Mrs.
Anna Ness, and Mrs. Ed Fler
moncr, all in Minnesota.

Mrs. Force was horn Aug.
27, 1895, in Beagle, Ore., a
daughter of E. H. and Adelade
Pnmerny. early pioneers in
Southern Oregon. She was mar
ried June 21, 1922, in Jackson
ville, to Bruce 0. Force, who
survives.
Other survivors include a son,
Bruce C. Force, Medford; a
brother, Thomas Pnmeroy, and
two sisters. Mrs. Charles Plow-
Green Stamps Are
Stolen From Station
Three thefts were reported to
the Medford City Police the past
weekend, one Involving $900
worth of S & H Green Stamps.
Bud's Texaco Station, 529 E.
Main St., was broken into Sun
day and $900 worth of S & H
Green Stamps were taken, along
with six or seven cartons ot
cigarettes, police said.
Approximately $2 was taken
from a coin box and a soft drink
machine was broken into at
Tom's Texaco Station, Eighth
and Grape Streets, Medford po
lice said. Thomas Guy Lednicky i
1005 W. Main St., reported the
incident to the police early Sun
day morning.
Truck Reported
Rifled During Night
A truck owned by John Bow
man, Route ,1, Medford, North
Phoenix Road, was rifled last
night and a number of items ;
taken, stale police said.
Missing are 25 gallons of gas,
a 12 volt battery, an ice chest,
sockets and wrenches.

Construction of
Water Main Starts
Construction of a six-inch wa
ter main on Second Avenue be
tween Western Avenue and Mc
Andrcws Road was scheduled
to start today, according to Wa
ter Department Manager Bob
Lee.
The water department is doing
the job on a contract basis for
the Maple Park Water District.
The area is outside the city lim
its, Lee said.
The Medford water depart
ment, on a contract basis, sells
water, service and does some
construction work to districts
outside the city, according to
Lee. The cost of the present con
tract is estimated at $4,200 and
includes 710 feet of pipe and
construction.
The project is part of a plan
for general improvement started
10 years ago by Maple Park Wa
ter District for the installation of
fire hydrants. Fire hydrants are
scheduled to be installed
throughout the district by early
next year.
Fire hydrants will enable res
idents to apply for lower fire
insurance rates because they
will chunge the district from
class eight to class seven, and
could lower the rates approxi
mately $3.50 per house, Lee es

Observance Today
Today, Dec. 17, is the last
day in the week of observance
designed to call attention to the
Universal Declaration of Human
Rights, adopted by the general
assembly of the United Nations
Dec. 10, 1958, Mrs. II. P. Bos
worth Jr., of Medford, who has
spent years working in the
United Nations Association pro
gram, reminded the public to
day. the Universay Declaration of
Human Rights, Mrs. Bosworth
explained, "Is not a treaty and
involves no legal obligations, lt
does, however, provide common
standards or goals toward which
all individuals and all nations
may well work."
Since 1949, Mrs. Bosworth re
called, the President of the
United States has issued a pro
clamation calling on the people
to observe Human Rights Day,
Dec. 10, and continue the ob
servance for one week.
"Since the tragedy of Presi
dent Kennedy's death it has
been suggested lhat every fam
ily, every service club and gov
ernmental body review the inci
dents that contributed to the
death of President Kennedy's
alleged killer," Mrs. Bosworth
staled.
Mrs. Bosworth asked for "a
deep understanding and passion
ate support of civil and human
righls as a proper observance
of this Human Rights Week,
with policemen, prosecutors,
lawyers, journalists and jurists,
participating and revealing their
own codes of conduct."
