Clyde Campbell, automotive
parts manager of Morse Motors
at Sixth and ivy sts., Meoiord,
has been selected by the Volks
wagen manufacturers to attend
the 1963 Commendation uay
Ceremonies at Wolfsburg, Ger
many, Dec. 10.
Campbell is one of two Volks
wagen parts managers in tne
United States who were chosen
for their outstanding work in
I heir field. He will spend a
week in Germany as a guest of
the Volkswagen firm attending
ceremonies and visiting the
various plants.
Campbell will leave Mcdford
Ihis evening and will arrive at
Idlewild Airport about noon Fri
day where he will he met by
representatives of the Volks
wagen National Headquarters In
Englewood Cliffs, N. Y. There
he will be taken on a tour of
the plant.
Leave New York
Leaving New York Saturday
evening, Campbell will fly to
Frankfurt, Germany, arriving
at 8:30 a.m. Me then will fly to
Hanover and lour the Volks
wagen commercial vehicle fac
lory and attend the Monday
evening Commendation Day
Dinner.
Tuesday's flight takes him to
Wolfsburg where he will tour
the automobile factory, attend
the Commendation Day cere
monies and take part in the
awards and presentations. Other
air trips will be to Hanover
again, Berlin and Munich.
He vill arrive in New York
again Saturday evening Dec. 1.1.

Control Guns Eyed

wake of the assassination of
President Kennedy, Congress is
coming to grips for the first
lime with far-reaching gun con
trol legislnllon.
Senate and House commillees
are expected lo consider bills
during the next 10 days lo place
major restrictions on the sale i
ot firearms throughout the na
tion. Individuals still would be
able lo purchase guns within
limits set down by local and
state laws but not by mail. j
The Just ire Depart ment rec
ommended Tuesday that inter
state shipment of guns be per- j
mitted only between manufac
turers and licensed dealers.
The department filed its pro
posals in a report on a Senate
hill that has been pending since
August. It said the Kennedy as
sassination indicated an urgent
need for broader legislation.
A spokesman for the influen
tial National Rifle Association
(NRA) said he was certain the
NRA would oppose the Justice
Department recommendation.
The NBA had endorsed legis
lation originally proposed by
Sen. Thomas J. Dodd. D-Conn.
Dndd's hill was designed to
curb mail order traffic of hand
guns to juveniles and criminals.
Dodd added two amendments
lo strengthen his bill after Ken
nedy's death. The surprise Jus
lice Department recommenda
tions were even stronger.
