Warrant Problem
NOVATO, Calif. (UP1) -Acting
Police Chief Robert Di
Grazia is facing a "major"
problem. And he has accused
the major involved of "action
unbecoming an officer and a
gentleman."
DiGrazia mailed a SIS traf
fic warrant to Maj. Alan. W.
Saunders of Novalo because he
failed to honor a $2 parking
ticket issued in San Rafael.
The acting police chief re
ceived the following answer from
the Air Force major, who re
cently was transfered to South
Vict Nam:
"Dear Chief,
"Just received your most wel
come notice of warrant. I note
that I am to be taken into cus
tody in Novate, I hope. I
can hardly wait. If you need
any assistance is obtaining dip
lomatic clearance to get into
Viet Nam to get me, please ad
vise by return mail. Also, if you
will let me know what flight
your man will he on, I will be
happy to meet the plane with
handcuffs installed. If I can be
of any further assistance, please
advise but do hurry."
Di Grazia described Saunders'
action as "unbecoming an offi
cer and gentleman serving the
united hlatcs, and said he was
turning the nolo over to the Air
Police investigation section at
Hamilton Air Force Base, with
a request that it be routed to
the proper authorities.
"You might expect this sort
of thing from a private, per
haps, but not a major," Di
Grazia said. "He could have en
clscd the $15 and then mado
his remarks."
