Book on Death
NEW YORK (UPI) -"Four
Days The Historical Record of
President Kennedy's Death"
has been chosen as the title of
the book to be published short
ly by United Press Internation'
al and the American Heritage
Company.
Material was being assembled
today with a view to making
the book available to the public
in record time. It will be dis-'
tributed early next month
through UPI subscribers exclu
sively and through retail book
stores in February.
Mims Thomason, president of
UPI, and James Parton, presi
dent of American Heritage, said
the elaborately illustrated docu
mentary account would contain
a preface by Bruce Catton, his
torian and senior editor of
American Heritage magazine.
It will be published in hard
covers, the content based on
UPI's news and picture cover
age, beginning with the late
President's arrival in Dallas on
Nov. 22, and ending with his
burial in Arlington National
Cemetery Nov. 25..
Thomason said a special staff
of UPI executives under the di
, rection of Earl J. Johnson, vice
president and editor of the serv
ice, and Harold Blumenfeld, ex
ecutive editor of UPI News
pictures, was at work with Jo
seph J. Thorndike, Jr., editorial
director of American Heritage,
in the selection and editing of
material for the book.
The volume is being offered
to UPI subscribers at reduced
prepublication rates for resale
under their individual auspices
and imprint.
Blumenfeld said he was mak
ing selections for the picture
pages from thousands of black
and white and color photo
graphs made by UPI photogra
phers during the four-day week
end. Many of UPI's more striking
dispatches will be reproduced
just as they were carried in the
service from reporters who cov
ered the momentous events in
Dallas and Washington.
"Four Days" will be issued
in the regular format of Ameri
can Heritage magazine.
