After the meeting a contest

Prizes were won by Miss Helen
Coiwcll, Ashland, and Miss
Charlotte Martin of Bethel 69.
Refreshments were served in
the dining room by the Misses

Christmas HEU Meetings To Be Held During Week

A reception held November 24 in Gold Hill honored Mr. and
Sirs. Melford Hood on their silver wedding anniversary. The
Hoods were married November 23, 19.18, in Medford, and have
lived in Gold Hill for the entire 25 years.

a reception Sunday afternoon,
November 24, in observance of
their 25th wedding anniversary.
Hosts for the celebration were
sons-in-laws and daughters of
the couple, Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Jones, Central Point, and Mr.
and Mrs. David Byers, Yreka,
Calif. The affair was given in
the new home of the Joneses
at 569 North Sixth Street, Cen
tral Point. Some forty relatives
of the honored pair called be
tween 2 and 4 o'clock.
Mr. and Mrs. Hood wore mar
ried November 23, 1938 in Med
ford and have resided In Gold
Hill where both were active in
community life prior to his re
tirement. A retired employee of Med
ford Corporation, he served six
years on the former Gold Hill
: District No. 57 School Board and
was chairman of that board
when the local school system
was consolidated in District 6
which now includes schools in
Gold Hill, Sams Valley and Cen
tral Point. He is a charter mem
ber of the Gold Hill Volunteer
Fire Department and served
several years as fire chief for
the city of Gold Hill.
Mr. Hood is a former mem
ber of the city council. Also
active in fraternal work, ne is
a Dast noble Brand and past
district deputy grand master of
the Odd Fellow Lodge No. 129
in Gold Hill, and is a past chief
patriarch of the I.O.u.r. en
campment at Grants Pass.
Is Postal Clerk
Mrs. Hood is a clerk at the
United States Posl Office in
Gold Hill, a position she has
held since 1953. She is a past
resident of the Gold Hill Par
ent Teacher Association and
was a Brownie Scout leader
children. She donated her time
for 10 years to serve as chair
man of the well baby and pre
school children's clinics for the
Gold Hill Health Unit. Also in
terested in fraternal work, she
is a past noble grand of Ame
thyst Rebekah Lodge No. 97 and
a past president of the Past
Noble Grands Club of the Gold
Hill lodge.
For the reception the room
was decorated in a blue and
silver theme. Pictures of the
four grandchildren, David and
Daniel Jones and Dixie and
Douglas Bycrs, stood at either
end of the gift table.
Completing the decor was a
silver tree decorated with red
balls, a gift to the couple from
tne Byers and Joneses.
Heirloom Presented
A silver i-ake server which
had been in Mrs. Hood's family
for 125 years was presented to
them by her aunt, Mrs. Leota
Lewis, Medford. The server had
belonged lo Mrs. Hood's great
grandmother, Mrs. C. C. Bill-
nps, whose maiden name was
Miss Helen S. Wright.
Also among the gifts of silver
from relatives was an engraved
silver anniversary plate.
A tiered wedding cake tipped
with the 25th anniversary letters
in silver was made by Mrs.
Harold Mercer, sister-in-law of
the couple. She cut and served
the cake and Mrs. Helen Junes,
mother of Mrs. Hood, poured.
Mrs. Leota Lewis kept the
guest book and Mrs. Jones and
Mrs. Byers took charge of the
gift table.
Mr. Hood moved to the Rogue
River Valley with his family
from Idaho In 1923 and Mrs.
Hood came to Southern Oregon
from Portland in 1937, with her
family.

strations of various holiday
items.
Final plans will be made for
the annual bazaar lo be held
December 6 in the Extension
Auditorium at the county fair
grounds, Medford.
Prospect -A
Christmas party, when hoi-!

will be on display, is planned
by Prospect Unit, Tuesday, De
cember 3, at 8 p.m., in the
Community Hall.
All interested women are in
vited and members and guests
having Christmas ideas or dec
orations are invited to take
them. Refreshments will be
served.
Griffin Creek
A demonstration of Christmas
candy-making will be given
during the Griffin Creek Unit
meeting Wednesday, December
4, at 10:30 a.m., in the home of
Mrs. Harry Fitzpatrick, 2212
Buena Vista Drive.

served at noon and members
are to take table service. Child
care will be provided and fur

Lake Creek
"Greenery" will be the lesson
for Lake Creek Unit, Wednes
day, December 4, in the home
of Mrs. Ira Woolfolk, Browns
boro. Mrs. William Harper and
Mrs. Lester Bradshaw will give
the demonstration.
The meeting will open at
10:30 a.m., and any woman in
the area who is interested is
invited.
A Christmas gift exchange
will be held in the afternoon
following a ham luncheon at
noon. Menu information may
be obtained from Mrs. Hencry
Meyer. Table service will be
required.
Upper Applegate
John Snider, former Medford
mayor, will speak about his visit
to Alba, Italy, at the Upper
Applegale Unit meeting Wednes
day. December 4. at 10:30 a.m.
in Ruch Community Church.
The annual potluck Christmas
