about such a session in the event
the Security Council fails in oi

sembly voted 89-0 Tuesday to
begin studies on making Latin
America a nuclear-free zone.
Cuba, the Soviet Union and
most of the Communist bloc
abstained. Communist Romania
voted in favor of the 10-power
Latin American resolution, how
ever. Cuba said it would agree to
the plan only if the United
States promised to keep nu
clear weapons out of the Pana
ma Canal zone and Puerto Ri
co, and to give up its Guantana
mo Naval Base on Cuba soil.

Trail Man High
Bidder on Timber
Arnold Ragsdale, Trail, was
high bidder this week for 565,000
board feet of National Forest
timber in the Bybee Blowdown
area, Union Creek Ranger Dis
trict, Rogue River National For
est. .
Forest Supervisor C. E. Brown
reported the high bid totaled
$12,659.25. The Forest Service
appraised price was $12,321.75.
Next high bidder in the oral
auction was Wayne Ash Log
ging, Trail. Other bidder was
S&W Logging.
Timber in the unit consisted of
285,000 board feet of Douglas-
fir bid at $29.55, 130,000 board
feet of pines bid at $18.75, and
150,000 board feet of hemlock
and other species bid at $12 per
thousand board feet.
SSiW Logging, Prospect, was
high bidder for 570,000 board
feet of National Forest timber in
the Whiskey Creek Blowdown
area, Union Creek Ran"?"- nis
trict. The high bid totaled $18,-
902.50. Forest bervice appraised
price was $14,160.25.
Next high bidder was Frank
Dolcnshek of Trail. Other bid
ders were J. G. Slack and Ar
nold Ragsdale.
Timber in the unit consisted of
390,000 board feet of Douglas-fir
bid at $38 per thousand, 70,000
board feet of pines bid at $39 per
thousand, 10,000 board feet of
Shasta red fir bid at $11.75 per
thousand, and 100,000 board feet
of white fir and other species
bid at $12.35 per thousand board
feet.
Minimum Wage for
Housekeeper Upped
PORTLAND (UPI) -The Con
ference Board of the Oregon
Wage and Hour' Commission
voted Tuesday to raise the mini
mum hourly wage for women in
"housekeeping" employ
ment from 75 cents to $1 an
hour.
The board increased the pay
for minors in "housekeeping"
employment from 65 to 85 cents
an hour. However, it refused to
cut the work week in the same
type of employment from 44
hours, or six days, to a maxi
mum of 40 hours.

Employes, appeared, before the
board and asked for a work
rate of $1.25 an hour.

Cambodia Formally
Asks End to Aid
WASHINGTON (UPI) - The
State Department announced to
day that Cambodia has formally
requested an end to U. S. mili
tary and economic aid. Officials
' said arrangements were being
made to wind up programs now
in effect.
