The 82-year-old head of Soviet

he remembered little about the

"The definition of intelligence

He explained that he had

Also, he said, there had been

Treasury Secretary Douglas

Mundt offered the proposal as

The Mundt measure would
prohibit the export-import bank

communists to finance proposed

At one point during his fight
for the controversial amend

wheat.
Mundt told the Senate that
the proposal to have the exDort-

Scranton, Goldwater Set
WASHINGTON (UPI)
rjov
William W. Scranton had an ap
pointment today with Sen.
Barry Goldwater to talk about
politics in Pennsylvania where
Goldwater backers have sur
faced to challenge Scranton's
favorite son candidacy for the
Republican presidential nomina
tion. Goldwater's position, an
nounced at a Pittsburgh news
conference last week, is that he
is not a candidate now and has
no responsibility for discourag
ing political activity by his
friends.
Scranton was expected to call
on the Arizona senator late to
day after a flight by private
plane from Harrisburg. He re
quested the meeting.
His request came after Gold
water supporters in western
Pennsylvania began making
noises about running pro-Gold-water
candidates for the GOP
National Convention delegation
in the Republican primary next
April 28.
According to reports here,
similar activity may develop
soon in eastern Pennsylvania.
Scranton is regarded by Re
publicans as a possible pres
idential nominee in case of a
national convention deadlock.
He repeatedly has denied that
he would be a candidate but
has agreed to go to the conven
tion as a favorite son candidate
of the Pennsylvania delegation.
He reiterated this week that
he was not a candidate for na
tional office in a message de
clining an Invitation to enter
the Maryland presidential pri:
mary next May.
In Pennsylvania presidential
primaries, candidates may be
entered directly in popularity
contest voting which is not bind
ing on national convention dele
gates. However, delegates elect
ed in the same primaries may
run as uncommitted or pledged
to a candidate for the presiden
tial nomination.
Pennsylvania GOP Chairman
Crai Truax, a Scranton backer,
issued a statement last week
end urging Pennsylvania Re
publicans to send an unpledged
delegation to the convention.
The recent Goldwater activity
is attributed to the national
draft-Goldwater organization.
