During a lull in the conversation at a ladies'
luncheon, one guest nodded to a woman passing
her table, then turned to her companion. "She's
such a wonderful girl. I've never met anybody
who said anything bad about Meg."
The woman's companion nodded. "That's true.
Let's talk about somebody else."

The weary mother of a large and hungry brood
was being interviewed by a researcher for a
kitchen-range company. He wanted to know what
improvements she would like to see in new stoves.
"I'll tell you," she replied, "I'd like one that
played, say, "Oh, Marie" when I'm cooking spa
ghetti and "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" when
it's stew and "Home on the Range" for steak."
"You like music when you cook?" the research
er asked.
"No, but that would stop every kid who tramps
through here from asking: 'Hi, Mom, what's
cooking?' " James Shurluck

The new bride and her mother went shopping
in the supermarket every day, and the young
woman unburdened herself of the perplexities of
wedded life. But what puzzled the mother most
were the bride's buying habits. At last she could
restrain herself no longer.
"Every day this week," she said, "you've
bought a can of tuna."
"Yes, I know," the bride replied. "I've been
giving John tuna every night and he still wants
to go fishing over the weekend !"

One brother was ambitious and hard-working
and became a successful businessman. The other
was lazy, constantly in debt, and an embarrass
ment to his family. The successful brother tried
to ignore the ne'er-do-well, and this so irritated
the latter that he cornered him at his office one
day and told him off:
"I don't understand your attitude! You're a
stuck-up snob. If anybody has a right to be stuck
up, it's me look at the successful brother I
have! You? Why, your brother is nothing but
a bum!" G. B. Bangheart
