tober 27, honored Mr. and Mrs.
C. G. Peebler, Phoenix, on the
occasion of their fiftieth wed
ding anniversary. The event,
attended by 85 relatives and
friends, was held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn W.
Smith, 2805 Juniper Avenue,
Medford.
It was given by the children
of the couple, Mrs. Smith, Mrs.
June Coke, Ashland; Robert L.
Peebler, Medford, and Mrs.
Ralph S. Thompson, Gold
Beach. ,
Baskets of yellow' and bronze
chrysanthemums decorated the
Smith home for the open house.
The flowers, from the Portland
gardens of Emil G. Nelson,
brother of Mrs. Peebler, were
brought by him.

wore a turquoise print jersey
dress. Her white orchid cor
sage was a gift from a grand
daughter, Miss Jean Smith.
Granddaughters Assist
Assisting with the serving
were four granddaughters. Mrs.
Richard J. Swinncy, Portland,
cut and served the anniversary
cake, Miss Smith presided at
the punch bowl and Miss Linda
Poenlcr was in charge of the
guest book. Mrs. Ernest R. Ken
nedy Jr. poured coffee.
Among the guests were 15 of
the couples 17 grandchildren
and two great - granddaughters.
Other guests included Mr. and
Mrs. Clarence Lane, Ashland,
who attended the Peebler wed
ding October 29, 1913, in Ash
land, and Mrs. C. R. Eliason,
Ashland, soloist for the wed
ding ceremony. The Lanes had
igned the Peebler s marriage
license which was displayed
along with wedding pictures.
Mrs. , peebler is the former
Gladys Nelson, daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. John Nelson.
Since her parents had moved
to Brownsvillo from Ashland
prior to the 1913 rites, the wed
ding was held at the home of
the bride s sister and brother-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Swenson, now of North Hol
lywood, Calif., who were unable
to come north for the anivor-
sary.
Mrs. Peebler is a member of
the Phoenix Garden Club. Mr.
Peebler attended the then
Southern Oregon Normal school
in Ashland from 1903 to 1907,
and was a teacher at an early
day school on Emigrant Creek,
now under the lake formed by
Emigrant Dam. He and Mr.
Lane also ranched together.

Is Elected
Mrs. Mary Note, 32. Hamilton
Strc :t, Medford, was elected
second national vice-president
of Blue Star Mothers of America
during the recent national con
vention held in Detroit. The
group, an organzation of the
mothers o( men and women in
the country's armed forces, has
a program of welfare and aid
for veterans and their families.
The group has several hun
dred chapters throughout the
nation.
Mrs. Floyd Groff, Waterloo,
la., was named president. The
1964 convention will be in Cleve
land, Ohio, in October. Since
the organization has a program
whereby the vice-presidents us
ually succeed to the next highest
office, Mrs. Note should be
come national president in 1965.
Bennett Works
n Art Show
EUGENE Eugene Bennett
of Jacksonville is one of 31 Ore
gon artists whose paintings and
drawings will be exhibited from
November 4 to 24 at Oregon
State University.
The Oregon invitational show
was organized as a highlight of
fall term on the OSU campus.
The exhibit will be in the Art
Gallery in the Memorial Union
Building.
Mr. Bennett will have three
of his oil paintings in the show.

When Gladys Nelson was married to C. G. Peebler on October
29, 1913, In Ashland, she wore a simple white satin gown with
pearl bead trimming down the front of the bodice. The couple
made their first home on a ranch in the Grecnsprings area.
'Winter Fantasies' Theme
For Gamma Xi Style Show

ed.
Fashions will be presented by
Burelson's store, and furs by
Samuels of the Medford Shop
ping Center.
Hair styles will be by Winnie's
Style Salon, and an added at
traction will be a display of
fashion wigs by James Spencer.
Holiday fashions will be
shown, including home, street
and formal evening attire.
Models will be members of the
chapter and their teen - age
daughters.
Hospital Auxiliary Plans
Annual Session Thursday
The annual fall meeting of
Rogue Valley Memorial Hos
pital Auxiliary will be held on
Thursday, November 7, at 1:30
p.m., in the auditorium of the
hospital. Mrs. Leonard B. May
field, president, urges members
to attend and bring an inter
ested friend to the business
meeting and. tea which will fol
low. On the agenda are election
of officers for the coming year,
reading of the annual report,
and presentation of awards, as
well as a brief talk by Dr.
Aivin Roberts. Dr. Roberts will
speak about his experiences as
a missionary doctor in Hama
dan, Iran.
Mrs. Mayfield points out that
this is the first time since the
auxiliary was organized nine
years ago, that the annual meet
ing for election oi omcers ana
presentation of awards has boon
held in November. Changes ap
proved in the by-laws last year
call for the membership to meet
on the first Thursday in Novem
ber. Alfred S. V. Carpenter, chair
man of the hospital board of
trustees, and Charles Gustafson,
administratis will present pins
to 38 volunteers who have given
the required hours for various
awards. This year, a 500-hour
pin has been added to those
given in the past.

for the Rental-Sales Gallery ex
hibit will be held Monday, No
vember 4, at the Rogue Valley
Art Association Gallery begin
ning at 8 p.m., according to
Mrs. William D. Thorndike, re
ception chairman for the asso
ciation. Mrs. Alfred S. V. Carpenter
will pour at the reception, which
is open to friends ot tne artists
as well as association members.
Assisting Mrs. Thorndike will
be Mrs. Harry Stanley, Mrs.
Richard Thierolf. Mrs. Jacque
line Laneston. Mrs. Ben Trow

The rental-sale exhibit may
be viewed at the gallery from
noon to 5 p.m. week days, be
ginning November 5 through 14.

on a rental basis, and to the

to be located at the gallery.
Return From
Midwest Trip
ASHLAND - Mr. and Mrs.
O. C. Maust, 1050 Park Street,
returned Tuesday from a month
long motor trip to the Midwest.
They visited in Iowa, Indiana
and Kansas and while in Wat
erloo, Iowa, attended the Bap
tist church where Mr. Maust's
father was pastor more than
70 years ago.

Both students are sophomores
at Willamette University. Miss
Cheney is a psychology major

Chosen for
Style Show
"A Touch of Paris" has been
selected as theme for the
Reames Social Club fashion
show, to be staged Saturday
November 16 at 1 p.m. in the
Medford Masonic Temple, 218
West Main Street. This is the
first style show to be presented
by the club in several years
and members are exerting
every effort to make it one of
the more interesting fall
shows, Mrs. William Hatzi,
general chairman has announc
ed. The theme will be used in
decorations and dessert.

Proceeds from baked food and
cotton candy sales held re
cently by the Candystripers
from Rogue Valley Memorial
Hospital Auxiliary will be used
to buy toys for the hospital's
pediatric unit, according to
Mary Beth Lockington, presi
dent of the group.
Mrs. J. A. Hoffbuhr, senior
auxilian who has acted as ad
visor to the girls for the past
year, reports that they planned
the sales and carried out all
of the arrangements as a serv
ice project to raise money for
this purpose.
Selection of the toys was
made by a committee of Can
dystripers, after consultation
with the nurse in charge of
pediatrics.
Membership Limited
Membership in the Candy
stripers, or Junior Auxiliary,
is limited to 22 girls. Each must
be at least 16 years of age, and
have completed the Red Cross
home nursing course. She must
also have the recommendation
of her nursing arts teacher, or
another school official if the
school does not teach nursing.
Present members represent
Mcc!fo"i, Phoenix, and Crater
High schools.
New members are required
to take the regular hospital aux
iliary orientation course before
assuming duties. Some of the
jobs performed by the girls arc
assisting in the snack bar and
gift shop in the hospital lobby,
working at the information desk
circulating through the building
with the gift cart, assisting the
nurses in pediatrics by feeding
or entertaining patients, and
acting as messengers for hos
pital personnel.
Two of the Candystripers,
Pam Grove from Phoenix, and
Gayle Offenbacher of Jackson
ville, appeared on a panel dis
cussion program on radio sta
tion KMED last week. They dis
cussed their work in the hos
pital, emphasizing the contribu
tion that responsible teen-agers
can make to a community.
World Call

with headquarters in Indianap
olis, Ind., will be guest speaker
Tuesday, November 3 for a dis
trict meeting of the Women's
Fellowship of First Christian
church, 1900 Crater Lake Ave
nue. The meeting will open at 11
a.m., and continue until 2 p.m..
Women from Klamath Falls,
Grants Pass and Ashland will
attend. The Medford church
women will be hostess group for
luncheon.
The speaker will be accom
panied by Mrs. Janet Quaken
bush, Oregon state executive
secretary for the Christian
Women s f ellowship and Mrs,
Lenore Van Dyke, state presi
dent. These women are touring
the state speaking at district
meetings promoting the use of
the magazine.

proaching marriage of their
daughter, Audrey Jean Fleish
man, to Roger J. Fcrrell, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Ferrell,
Old Stage Road, Central Point.
The bride-elect was graduated
from Grants Pass High School
and is a dental assistant. Mr.
Ferrell is a commercial pilot.
A graduate of Crater High
School, he attended the Univer
sity of Miami and is a graduate
of Embry-Riddle School of Aero
nautics, Coral Gables, Fla.
They will be married in late
November at Lake Tahoe, Calif.

banquet and ball this year will

Valley Country Club, it has been

The event is for all reserve
officers, active or retired, from
