the happy beneficiaries of a
tax break sponsored by the man
who was to become his nemesis,
Sen. John J. Williams, R-Del.
Today the 35-year-old politico
entrepreneur, who resigned his
$19,600 job earlier this month,
is the target of a wide-ranging
investigation sparked by Williams.
Market for Grapes

expert has warned grape farm

manager of the Deciduous Fruit
Board, told a meeting of grape
farmers at Paarl, 35 miles from
here, that only four African
states now buy South African
grapes, compared with 10 three
years ago.
He said these four, Senegal,
Ihe Ivory Coast, the Cameroons
and Kenya, probably will bar
South African produce soon, los
ing the republic an export mar
ket of 72,000 boxes of grapes a
year.
In the Far East, Singapore
took 40,000 boxes and the Phil
lipincs 10,000 boxes last season.
Bolh countries are exectcd to
boycott South African goods
this year.
Bcstbier said that if Northern
Rhodesia and Nyasaland follow
the examle of other independ
ent African states a 70,000-box-a-ycar
market will be lost.
But to offset those losses he
said Canada, the Persian Gulf
and Red Sea areas were ex
pected to buy more South Afri
can grapes.
Total South African grape ex
ports this year will total 5,650,
000 boxes.

permitted these taxpayers to ap
ply their 1962 "disaster losses"
against their 1961 federal in

was approved by the Treasury
Department on the ground that.

tee also said the group would
consider summoning the recent
ly ousted Mrs. Komctsch if her
case is deemed relevant lo the

Jordan's committee is trying
