United Nations
Building Has
Meditation Room
With the opening of the United
Nations General Assembly in
New York City persons are re
minded that in the large UN
building there is a Meditation
Room open to the public.
The room was reopened Nov.
11, 1957, after it was remodeled
under the approval and personal
supervision of the late Secre
tary General Dag Hammar
skjold. The project is supported
by the Friends of the Meditation
Room of The Laymen's Move
ment. The room is a V-shnnrH nrta
decorated in off-white with a
nrniwtinp nannl ai thp nurrntv
end set apart by a fresco by
the artist, Bo Beskow. The fres
co's theme is "Infinity."
The chief point of interest is
a six ton slab of crystalline iron
ore, an altar stone, a gift of the
Swedish government. While the
room is in semi-darkness, a tiny
shaft of light reflects off the
altar stone. This simple study
offers a symbol of man's hope
for "lisht of understandine" tn
flood the "world of misunder
standing."
In a brochure about the Medi
tation Room, it States' "Prnver

dynamic manifestation of love
by the concerned, reaching out
for God's help for man. You
can help change the world by
your prayers and your prayerful
action.
