Dr. R. C. Young, a Scotsman,
an emigrant who came to Amer
ica after serving with the Gor
don Highlanders in World War I,
will speak for Rogue River Val
ley Knife and Fork club Tues
day, November 2, on "America
Meets the Challenge of World
Leadership."
In his talk Dr. Young exhorts
America's youth and adults, not
to overlook t h e advantages
America offered to him and is
continuing to offer to all other
Americans with a will and am
bition to get ahead.
After reaching this country,
the immigrant worked as a day
laborer, an unskilled worker in
an automobile industry in Flint,
Mich. It was his goal to com
plete his college and university
training. Now he holds an honor
ary doctorate besides academic
degrees. He has served both as
a college professor and an ad
ministrator. Deadline for dinner reserva
tions is Saturday, November 2.

Near East Trip
Dr. and Mrs. Edwin R. Durno,

leave from San Francisco the
first of November a6oard the
Holland-American line freighter,
Naaslloyd to be away until mid
February. From the Bay city they will
travel through the Panama ca
nal to Capetown, Union of South
Africa and the month following
will be spent in South and East
Africa visiting Tanganyika and
Kenya. Traveling through Aden
Dr. and Mrs. Durno then will
visit ports from the Indian ocean
and Red sea.
The ship will continue through
(he Suez canal into the Mediter
ranean to Lisbon, Spain.
The freighter then will take
them to New York City and after
leaving there will return by way
of the Panama to San Francisco.
Ten other passengers will be
aboard the Dutch freighter.

noon rites October 13 in Med
ford Friends church.

formed the ceremony.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a lace
gown with scalloped neckline
and three - quarter length
sleeves. The taffeta overskirt,
fastened at the waistline with
a bow, was designed with
chapel train. A single satin
rose held her fingertip length

The bride's attendants wore
blue crystaline frocks with bell-!
shaped skirts and matching
short veils. The flower girls
were dressed in baby blue pol
ished cotton and also had
matching short veils.
The church was decorated
with white chrysanthemums.
Miss Allison Pfaff, Eugene,
was organist and Miss Anne
Saunders, Roseburg, the solo
ist. During the reception the
minister, Mr. Smith, played
background organ music.

brocaded sheath dress with
beige accessories. Mrs. Bag
well chose a pink and cran
berry colored knit suit with
black accessories. Both had
pink rosebud corsages.
Women of the West hide
Christian church, Roseburg,
gave the reception in the Med-.
ford Friends church social
rooms. Some 200 friends attend
ed the wedding and 150 the
reception. Mrs. Margaret Pfaff, 1
Roseburg, made the wedding
cake.
Mrs. Edward Ekwall, Ash
land, aunt of the bride, and
Mrs. Max Ruge, Klamath Falls,
a cousin of the bride, served
the cake. Mrs. Don Bagwell,
Grants Pass, aunt of the bride-,
groom, poured the punch, while
Mrs. Bessie Wight, aunt of the
bride, served the coffee. Regis-!
tering the guests was Mrs. 1
Millard Hicks. Mrs. Harold
Friend was at the gift table.

The bride is a laboratory tech
nician and was employed in
Medford at Valley laboratories,
and also at J.C. Penney com
pany. The bridegroom now is
studying aviation mechanics at
Eugene Vocational school.

church. The bride is the former
Miss Betty Diane Rowe, daugh

Rowe, 1866 Springbrook road.
The bridegroom is a son of
Earl Cooper Sr., 64 North Ninth
street. Central Point, and the
late Mrs. Cooper.
The Rev. George Roscberry
performed the ceremony.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a gown of
satin, the bodice with lace over
lay and long lace sleeves. The
floor length skirt was bell-shaped.
She carried a bouquet of
white carnations centered with
a white orchid.
Sister Is Attendant
Mrs. Glenn Boles, a sister of
the bride, was her only attend
ant. Her street length frock was
of salmon colored satin with
jacket and her flowers were
white chrysanthemums.

best man for his brother. Ray

The reception was given by
the bride's mother in the Neff
home. Miss Vervia Beman and
Miss June Hopkins served cof
fee and punch. Serving the cake
was Mrs. Betty Gentry, Klam

er wore a yellow frock with
jacket and white chrysanthe
mum corsage.
For traveling the bride wore
a blue wool dress with black ac
cessories. Both the bride and b r d e -groom
are Crater High school
graduates. The bride is employ
ed as a key punch operator in
the offices of Harry and David's
Bear Creek orchards. The bride
groom is employed by Olson

Haynes, to Richard Noel. He is

Miss Haynes is a junior at

tarial science. Her fiance is a
junior theology student at the
same school.

reared in Medford and is a grad
uate of Medford High school.

vens, lifetime residents, were
honored October 12 in observ
ance of their fifthicth wedding
anniversary, when a surprise
family dinner was arranged in
their home at 2877 Springbrook
road, Medtord.
Mrs. R. J. Smith, daughter of
the couple, and Mrs. Lathal Ste
vens, wife of their eldest son,
prepared the dinner. Two an
niversary cakes were presented
io me couple, one made by
their daughter, Mrs. Darrell
Bell, Phoenix, and the other by
Mrs. Lathal Stevens.
The cakes were ornamented
with figures used at previous
family events, one of wedding
bells had been used at the
twenty - fifth wedding anniver
sary of the Lathel Stevens, and
doves and lily of the valley were
from the wedding cakes of their
two granddaughters, Mrs. David
Hess and Mrs. Gary Picard.
The Lester B. Stevens are par
ents of six children, Lathal Ste
vens, Rogue River; Harvey
Stevens, Bandon: Marvin Ste
vens, Mrs. Smith, both Med
ford; Mrs. Bell; and Vernon
Stevens, Bandon. They also have
IB grancicnuclren and four great
grandchildren. From out of town were Mr.
and Mrs. Hess and son, Clay,
Asioria.
Mrs. Lester B. Stevens has
lived in this area since she was
nine years old and her husband
was born in Phoenix. The couple
was married in the home of the
Rev. Arthur J. Whidden, min

Rodenmyer at the church. Mrs.
Dick Chamberlain, Eagle Point,
sister of the bridegroom, cut
and served the tiered wedding
cake. Mrs. Walter Collins, an
other sister, poured the punch.
