Aerial Tramway Not
In Public Interest
PORTLAND (UPI) - An
aerial tramway to carry sight
seers from the Columbia Riv
er Highway in Oregon to Miia
ra Point, high above the Co
lumbia Gorge in Washington,
is "not in the public interest,"
Mt. Hood National Forest Su
pervisor Paul Neff said Wed
nesday.
Neff said he had given his
opinion to Lauren Lucas of
Bonneville Aerial Tramway,
Inc., which wanted to build the
facility.
Neff indicated his action
would kill plans to make a sur
vey of the area and call for
bids.
He said a tramway would not
fit in with the recreational con
cept of the Columbia Gorge,
and there was no Dublic sunnort
for it.
Another plan to build a tram
way between Crown Point and
Rooster Rock also has drawn
opposition from the Columhia
River Gorge' commission.
