Three People Are '
Injured in Two
Accidents in Area
Thrpe persons were reported
in cowl condition at two hos
pitals today following Wednes
day automobile accidents, both
involving Ior trucks.
At Sacred Heart hospital arn
Lowell 0. Pogue. 42, of route 2,
box 142, Eagle Point, operator
of a pickup truck, and Leo Carl
Graves, 61, of box 30, Tiller, who
was driving the log truck.
At Crater Osteopathic hospital
is Ellen Louise Childers, 46, of
route 2, box 55E, Jacksonville.
According to Oregon slate po
lice, one accident occurred on
Highway fi2 near the entrance
of the Veterans Administration
Domiciliary, While City, at 2:40
p.m. Officers said the north
bound Pogue pickup, pulling a
flat bed trailer, attempted to
make a U turn on Highway 62,
pulling in front of a log truck
operated by Graves. Poguo
fell out of the pickup in the im
pact, and Graves jumped from
the logging truck before it turn
ed over, officers ssid.
In the accident on Applegaln
rd. about 11:15 a.m., police said
that Ellen Childers, who has
the mail delivery route in thn
area, had stopped to deliver
mail near a curve, when her
pickup was struck by the south
hound log truck operated bv
William Henry Bohl, 31, of 30K2
Jacksonville highway, Medford.
All three injured persons wern
taken to hospitals by Medford
Ambulance service.

they had a fiood safety record
with firearms on opening week
end, Stale Game Director Phil
Schneider said today.
Seven (ires on slate lands
were definitely caused by hunt
ers and another five wera
caused by smokers and camp
ers, Schneider said. The larRcst
blaze burned fin acres.
Fourteen National "orest fires
and four on Rureau of Land
Management land also were re
ported in the stale over tho
week end, hut they were identi
fied only as man-caused. Thero
was no indication if hunters
were responsible.
Schneider said Ihc firearms
record was the best since B5-I.
Four persons were wounded,
one seriously. There were 12 ac
cidents last year.

Walnut Husk Fly
Found in Jackson
SALEM -IUPD- An infes
tation of the walnut husk fly
has been found in the Medford
area, the Stale Agriculture De
partment said today
Hugh Taylor, chief nf Ihc de
partment's plant division, said
the infestation was the first
known in Oregon.
The fly has been found
throughout California and other
nut growing areas in the United
States.
Nuts wilh the worm were dis
covered by Jackson County
Agent Donald W. Berry.
Specimens were sent to the.
State Agriculture Department
and Ihe California Department
of Knlomology.
Taylor said the fly does not
enter Ihe meal of the walnut,
but affects the grade as it
causes shell discoloration.
