Race Tracks Denied
PORTLAND (UPI) -Mana-gers
of three race tracks in the
Portland area denied today that
welfare checks had been cashed
there.
They were answering A. W.
Gustafson, a Gresham attorney,
who said he had reasons to be
lieve welfare recipients had
cashed state checks at local
tracks. He indicated he may
seek a writ of mandamus from
the State Supreme Court order
ing check records opened lor in
spection.
Charles F. Hunter, resident
manager of Portland Meadows;
Duane Hennessy, manager of
the Multnomah County Fair, and
Murray Kemp, manager of the
Multnomah Kennel Club, said
welfare checks had not been
