Program Scheduled
Eugene A new program of
the University of Oregon School
of Business Administration will
make it possible for business
men in the Portland area and
pother areas outside Eugene to
take courses in Eugene leading
to a graduate degree in busi
ness administration.
Under the graduate program,
scries of courses will be of
fered late Friday afternoon and
Saturday morning on the Eu
gene campus.
A company interested in de
veloping and maintaining the
effectiveness of its managerial
talent could release those men
desiring to take work in Eu
gene at noon on Friday, and
they could drive to Eugene to
altend the Friday classes being
offered from 3 to 5:50 p.m. in
fall, winter, and spring terms.
They could then stay over-
night in Eugene, studying at
the university library that eve
ning. On Saturday morning the
students can take another grad
uate seminar before leaving
Eugene.
'- This new program is in addi
tion to the courses offered in
Portland by the University's
School of Business Administra
tion through the division of con
tinuing education. The Portland
ofierings will be as extensive
. as those provided during the
past several years.
JEWEL OK A MOVE
Britain's crown jewels, most
. notably the Black Prince ruby,
will be moved in 1965 to an un
derground vault in the Tower
of London. Now they are dis
played to a million spectators
a year in guarded Wakefield

17th century chateau tucked
away in the gigantic gardens
of Versailles Place is being over
hauled for important new house
holders reportedly official
guests of President Charles de
Gaulle.
The Grand Trianon, a com
paratively second - string cha
teau begun in 1678 as a "satel
lite" to the main palace, 18
miles from Paris, has been
closed to tourists since last win
ter for restoration.
Bricks are heaped around the
chateau grounds. Windows are
boarded up. A fence carries
signs with the word "closed."
Since the palace at Versailles
and its grounds were restored
after World War 1, millions of
fascinated tourists have shuffled
through the Grand Trianon's
four luxurious apartment where
Madame De Pompadou, Louis
XIV, Louis XV, Louis XVII,
Napoleon and other celebrated
names in French history once
slept.
But virtually nobody has
warmed the beds or puttered in
the kitchen since King Philippe
holidayed there briefly in the
1840'S.
For World Leaders
Now unofficial whispers in of
ficial circles report that the
chateau will return to its glory
as a lodging tor world leaders.
De Gaulle reportedly is plan
ning to use tne chateau, 25 min
utes by road from Paris, as a
guest house for visiting heads of
state.
Currently, when visitors such
as Soviet Premier Nikila
Khrushchev or President John
Kennedy come to France, they
are put up in apartments of the
Quai D'Orsay, the French For
eign Ministry, or in the Cha
teau De Champs, a mansion
about 35 miles southpeast of
Paris.
The French President is said
to think that one of Versailles'
chatcaus would better fit the
grandeur of his country.
Official circles discount re
ports that De Gaulle is think
ing of following Louis XVI and
Napoleon into the Grand Tria
non chateau himself. De Gaulle
has inspected the Trianon and
also the empty Chateau De Virv
cenncs in Paris. But if he does
not seek another term of office
it is considered unlikclv he
would leave the Elysee palace
in tne heart ot Paris.
Is Small Chateau
The Grand Trianon was con
structed during the reign of Lou
is XIV so the royal family could
escape the mammoth Versailles
palace. The chateau, of yellow
stone with built-in rose marble
columns, is only one-story tall
and small as chatcaus go in
France.
Louis XV lived in the Grand
Trianon, but later tired of it
and built a smaller chateau next
door, the Petit Trianon. His
successor, Louis XVI, and his

versity will be one of the U. S.
centers again this school year
for the advanced training of
high school and college science
and mathematics teachers.
Forty-seven teachers from 18
states and 3 foreign countries
have been selected to take spe
cial training this year at OSU
as part of the National Science
Foundation program aimed at
upgrading science and math
teaching in the U. S. and in
creasing the number ol top-
quality teachers and scientists.
OSU has received a grant of
$289,000 to conduct the Aca
demic Year Institute training.
It was one of 16 U. S. universi
ties picked to start the training
programs in 1957 and has been
on the select list each year since
then.
Dr. Stanley E. Williamson,
head of the science education
department, is director.
Each of the teachers chosen
for the institute will receive
$3,000 plus allowances for de
pendents, books ana travel, ine
47 were chosen from some 700
applicaitons. Most of them are
high school teachers but some
are science or mathematics su
pervisors in school systems, or
teachers in liberal arts and
junior colleges. The three for
eign teachers are from Aus
tralia, The Netherlands, and
India.

Today workmen stand on
scaffolding to clean the outside
to the L-shapcd chateau. The
furnishings and tapestries are
being cleaned and repaired and
the celebrated Louis XIV period
carved wood panellings are in
a workshop for refinishing. New
windows and some new floors
also are on order.

The delicate cleaning, paint
ing and repairing of the an-
