The Family Council
Kdltor'i note: The Famllr Council conilita of ludce,
hychltrlst, three clergymen, thme editori ann a women'i edltnr.
Each article la a summary of a family disagreement presented to the
Council lhe Council dsals with problems, major and minor,
nrounteied by guidance counselors and social workers. Edited by
lira. Alma Denny. 'Copyright by General Featurea Corp.)
Mrs. K.F. - It sccma a
shame to turn down such a
wonderful home.
Mn. E.L. - We tried it.
Hold on to your own home no
matter what.
Mr. K.F. - Our son plans
to purchase a 13-room house,
specially designed for two
generations of the same fam
ily. It's in a new community
and the whole idea sounds
great - my husband and I
would occupy the 3 - room
apartment set off in a separate
wing, yet we'd all be undrr
one roof. But my friends
warn against it.
Mn. E.L. - In theory that
togetherness proposition
sounds perfect but my hus
band and I fell for it and
we've regretted it. Instead of
taking it easy in our later
years, we find we've taken on
our children's burdens and
responsibilities. When they
can't meet a payment, we
handle it. And we're captive
baby-sitters.
The Council: Before giving
up their sovereign rights as
householders, Mr. and Mrs
F. should weigh the con's,
presented by Mrs. L.., against
the pro's pressed on her by
her son. It s true that no two
cases are alike, but elemental
self preservation demands
that she see the possibility of
being "used" and exploited
