Council on Aging
Seeks Aid in More
Space for Group
A request for aid in provid
ing a more spacious activity
center for the Rogue Valley
Council on Aging was present
ed to the Medford park and
recreation commission by Russ
Jamison, council president, at
the Wednesday night meeting.
Jamison pointed out that
there are now 500 registered
users of the center who are
over 65 years of age.
Because of the growth in
membership and in projects,
the center has become badly
crowded, he said, and the
scope of the program will be
limited in the future if larger
quarters are not made avail
able. The members find it
necessary to work in units
now and one unit at a time.
The commission members
agreed that the Council on
Aging is badly in need of
larger quarters and promised
to help solve the problem but
took no definite action.
The present center, located
on Hawthorne and Jackson
sts., is a city-owned building,
which has been rented by the
council.
Representing Rotary, Jami
son thanked the park and rec
reation commission for the
work done on the baseball
program and reported on the
presentation of awards to the
players and the luncheon giv
en by the Rotary club, honor
ing the players.
Andy Kumas, manager of
the Cherry Lane Park golf
course, and Bill Mitchell, the
golf professional, reported to
the commission on progress
of lessons offered to children
and adult beginners in golf.
They thanked the commission
for the cooperation given this
program which they described
as "very successful."
