Instant Beer'
May Soon Appear
For Consumption
Cincinnati, Ohio -HJPD- The
unsullied pleasure of a bottle
or can of cold beer may soon
be corrupted by an ersatz
product called "Instant beer."
Delegates to the 27th bien
nial convention of the Inter
national Brewery Workers
Union were told Tuesday that
the just-add-water product
may soon be ready for distri
bution. Although automation and
new processing methods -among
them "instant beer"
are causing concern among
the union's top ranks, the new
product la viewed with mixed
reaction among the rank-and-file.
The process Involves quick
freezing fresh beer and re
moving the water In the form
of ice.
Shipped In Tank Cars
The concentrate can then
be shipped in tank cars and
"reconstituted" at bottling
plants scattered around the
country. Shipping costs would
be cut 75 per cent.
"The process would be a
benefit to the big breweries
with national distribution,"
James Wolfe, union director
of education and research
said. "By having bottling cen
ters in several places, they
might cut into the business
: of local breweries."
"While we might lose
some jobs at the big brewing
centers, we might pick up
more jobs at the new recon
stitution points," he added.
But Wolfe said he had no
idea of how the beer-drinking
members of the union would
take to the new product.

Nadino J. T There are no
musts any more. We do what
we cm.
Mrs. E. J A year ago,
when my husband reached
65 and I, 58, we came to
Florida Irom New York. But
he died last April and In my
confusion I gave up my apart
ment, sold the furniture, and
moved In with my Florida
daughter, her husband and
son. Things were unbearable
so I went North to be with
my family, but they're vnry
crowded, and I must settle
somewhere. My California
daughter asks me not to cjmc
I there just now.
Nadine J.T I'm the Flor
ida daughter referred to. My
sislcr out West is having .iar
ital trouble and while things
I are so shaky there she cer
tainly can't have my mother
under her roof. As for me, I
had one blow-up after another
with Mother on the premises
it's inhibiting for my hus
band and our teen-ager. She
has no money worries so why
won't she rent a place near
me? Her notions of "d ily"
are old-fashioned. .
The C o u n c 1 It Mrs. J.'s
wound is still too raw for her
to think clearly. She made
one mistake giving up her
home. She's making others as
she goes from one relative to
another begging, or even de
manding, to be "taken in."
Our advice is that she catch
up the frayed edges of her
former life In Florida .md
take it from there, "once more
with feeling"! This time she
must take more accurate slock .
of her blessings, rather than
panic at her losses. How does
the tally read? On the debit
side there's the end of a long,
happy, marital union. But in
the credit column there's:
(1) proof that she has the
capacity to maintain a suc
cessful relationship with a
husband; (2) financial ease;
(3) good health. Her first
move should be to follow
Nadine's suggestion and get
settled in her own home. Next
would come a program of Do
ing Things. And subtly, we're
sure, a better relationship
with her daughters would en
sue as she becomes less petul
ant and more aware of their
problems.
