spiritual awakening here
would do more good than al
most anywhere else," he said.
The evangelist outlined his
objectives for a three-day cru
sade which begins Thursday
in the 106,000-seat Memorial
Coliseum.
Graham said he hopes to
win people to a knowledge
of Christ, help religious
groups to see the need to
work more closely together,
show people what is wrong
with American family life and
bring about a rededication of
church people to Christ.
Siamese Twin Dies
Following Surgery
Los Angeles-OJPIl-One of the
Siamese twin boys born to a
16-year-old Glendale, Calif.,
mother last Saturday died
early today from an infection
of the blood stream.
Daniel Bartley was separ
ated from his brother, David,
Sunday in a delicate three
hour operation at Children's
Hospital.
David, who has not shown
symptoms of the infection
which took his brother's life,
was reported still on the cri
tical list but "holding his
own."
The infants were joined
from the breastbone to the
navel when they were deliver
ed to Rebecca Bartley at Glen
dale hospital. Their combined
weight was 14 pounds, 4
ounces.

guess I have the wrong number" and hung up.
The bride-of-a-month tittered nervously aa she passed th
cocktails at the first formal dinner party she hosted. "I do hope
these martinis will hit the spot," she quavered. "We ran out of
olives, so I had to pour a spoonful of olive oil into each glass."

study report filed last week
welcomed the work which
state regulatory bodies have
performed in the securities
industry.
Also, according to the news
digest which the SEC issued,
it had some suggestions for
strengthening the hands of
the state bodies in some as
pects of its patrolling of the
industry.
Most of the SEC report,
now completed, has dealt with
aspects of the industry on a
nationwide scale, with the
activities of the stock ex

But the special study took
care to say, according to the
digest, "there has not been
and should not be federal pre
emption in the field of securi
ties regulation." In other
words, the federal govern
ment doesn't want the whole
hog at all, but recognizes that
state bodies play an .import
ant part in the whole regula
tory picture.
State regulation, the report
said, operates in two ways: To
provide a means of handling
certain essential local prob
lems, and to supplement fed
eral regulation.
"The report," said the di
gest, "makes special mention
of the important contribu
tions of the states in estab
lishing qualifications for broker-dealers
and salesmen and
in formulating standards in
connection with the levels
and kinds of compensation
which underwriters of con
ventional and investment
companies ( securities may
charge."
Continuing, it also pays
tribute to the role in regula
tion played by the North
American Securities Admin
istrators, composed of state
security officials from the
United States, Canada and
Mexico.
This group, it said, had
helped in developing stand
ards and policies in such mat
ters as reciprocal business
practices of investment com
panies and the acquisition of
warrants and options by un
derwriters; has helped to get
greater uniformity of regula
tion among the states.

Award Contracts
Portland (UPD Four con
tracts with a combined value
of $231,996 have been award
ed by the Portland U.S. Army
Engineer District.
Willamette Tug and Barge
Company of Portland re
ceived a contract of $105,700
for furnishing a. hydraulic
pipeline dredge for about
480 hours dredging in the
Gold Beach boat basin and
its entrance channel.
The Jay F. Oldham firm of
Eugene was awarded a $43,
617 contract for construction
of bank protection works on
the McKenzie river two miles
north of Springfield.
A contract for construction
of bank works on the South
Santiam river four miles
southwest of Jefferson for
$42,786 was given to the
Floyd Graham Construction
Co. of Lebanon.
The other contract went to
Edwin J. Welding Co., of
Portland for $39,893 for con
struction of bank protection
works on the McKenzie ri
ver three miles northeast of
Walterville in Lane county.
