down at 17 billion board feet.
Loggers salvaged two and a
half billion board feet, or
about 15 million board feet
a day, during the first half
of 1963, he estimated.
The timber disaster com
mittee, which Hagenstein
heads, Is seeking to remove
most of the salvage by June
of next year to reduce the
threat of tree killing bark
beetles which often build up
in Diowdown and later spread
to living trees.
More than 14 million peo
