Real Reason Behind 1952 Gangland Slaying of Arnold Schuster in N. Y. Disclosed
New York - (UPD - "That's
him, that's Arnold," screamed
Wally Schuster outside h i s
Brooklyn home on the night
of March 8, 1952. "My God!
They got him!"
Wally Schuster, operator of
a small clothing store, bent
over the body of his dead son
who had been shot in both
eyes and the groin in front of
a neighbor's house. Schuster
didn't exactly know who
"they" were, but he knew
there were plenty of people
who resented his son's sudden
fame for having recognized
America's most wanted bank
robber, Willie Sutton, on a
subway on Feb. 18, 1952.

To Tour With Team
Washington - (UPD - Five of
the 37 Sherpa guides who
aided the American team
which climbed Mount Everest
in May were invited to ac
company the team on a six
week goodwill tour of the
United States. The Sherpas
carried heavy loads of sup
plies to above the 27,000-foot
level - an extraordinary feat
because of the thin air at that
altitude.
Sutton was arrested and
imprisoned because of Arnold
Schuster's sharp eye. The 24-
year-old pants salesman got
plenty of praise and plenty
of crackpot mail, too, includ
ing a few notes warning that

looking Schuster flashed on
the screen. Anastasia explod

who has often been hunted.
"I hate squealers," he shout

NAMED SECRETARY j
Chicago -IUPD- Joseph Mc-
Mown, uoos Bay, Ore., has
been named secretary of the
National Conference of Com
missioners on Uniform State
Laws.
That's the story of why Ar
nold Schuster was rubbed out
in an alley as he rushed home
to change his clothes for a
dance, according to a man
who should know - Joseph
Valachi.
Valachi, who Is serving a
prison term on a narcotics
charge, is the first member
of the Mafia, or "Cosa Nos
tra" as it is known to its mem
bers, to turn informant on
his former fellows in syndi
cated crime. Valachi was a
lieutenant of Vito Genovese
who later ordered Anastasia's
slaying in a Manhattan bar
bershop. Thus Genovese won
the struggle for power which
he still is reputed to hold al
though he is in a federal pris
on. According to federal au
thorities Valachi has identi
fied Schuster's slayer as Fred
trick Tcnuto, one of two orig
inal suspects long sought in
the still-open case. But Vala-
chi said officials will never
find Tenuto. Anastasia had
him murdered in turn to cov
er the trail.
