Advantages Noted
In Having Freezer
In a survey, homemakers
who owned modern freezing
space, such as is found in
either 1963 refrigerator-freezers
or separate freezers, listed
the following advantages of
modern frozen foods:
-Food p r e s e r vation by
freezing requires only half as
much time as canning.
-Time and energy are saved
by fewer shopping trips.
-Foods can be cooked and
frozen when time is available.
-With both fresh and cook
ed frozen foods on hand,
meals can be prepared quick
ly and easily.
-Money can be saved by
buying foods in quantities,
taking advantage of sales and
low seasonal prices.
-Food preparation costs and
food wastes are reduced by
wise use of plan-overs and
left-overs.
Blackmail Games
Add Spice During
Italian Parties
Rome - OIPD - The "black
mail game" is the latest craze
in Italian society this year,
and strangely enough, no one
has yet murdered one of his
partners.
But many a friendship has
been broken.
The often unpleasantly re
alistic game works like this:
Each player can buy a certain
number of counters, always
smaller than the total number
of participants. If there are
six players, for instance, each

Gift Corner for
FreezerSuggested
For Homemakers
Many families foster the
tradition of speeding depart
ing guests with some gift to
remind them of the bounty
of the home they have visited.
In season, it may be fruit
or vegetables, from the gar
den, or a bouquet of flowers.
Out-of-season, many home
makers rely on their freezers
-either a separate one or part
of a refrigerator-freezer to
supply a treasured dish as the
gift.
Here's how your freezer
will do the trick for you and
give you some fun at the same
time. When you have some
spare time you can prepare
lea rings, homemade rolls,
special loaves of nut bread
and a wide variety of other
special foods. Just wrap them
for freezing and store in your
freezer. That's one place that
will keep what you baked as
fresh as the day you made
them.
Devoted to Gifts
If you devote one section
of your freezer for these gifts,
you can delay the wrapping
until you're ready to give it
away. But if you spread the
packages throughout the gen
eral food area of your freezer,
it's best to wrap the packages
first so they can be easily
identified.
The variety of gifts that you
can prepare in advance is end
less. Cookies, cakes and can
dy are only a few. An espe
cially nice gift is your favorite
fruit pie frozen In a new plas
tic container and tied with
gay ribbon.
This gift corner in your
freezer will give you a gen
erous supply of personalized
rememberances for any occa
sion, wrapped and ready to
give at a moment's notice.
can buy only four chips.
men they draw lots to de
cide who is to be the first
"blackmail victim" and each
o" the others writes him a
pay or I'll tell everyone that
" note.
The victim receives the
notes one by one and must
decide each time if he should
buy the right of tearing it up
or allow the author to read it
aloud. Since he hasn't enough
counters to pay all of the
blackmailers, and since he
doesn't know what the next
notes will say, the decision
Us often an agonizing one.
Are Gentlemen
Of course, the "blackmail
ers could choose to be gen
tlemen - like and say nothing
too embarrissing - but if they
do they will be short of chips
when it is their turn to play
the victim.
There is no rule that the
blackmailers' statements must
be true, but of course the
truer the more effective.
When the first victim has
received all messages, lots are
drawn for the second and so
en. When all have played the
victim once, the second round
starts in the same order and
anyone left short of counters
can get new ones but at
double the original price.
Also fashionable is another,
somewhat more innocent
game called "the auction."
The auctioneer offers for
sale a quality of one of the
players (Joe s intelligence,
Mary's beauty) or such things
as a kiss, a necktie, and so on.
Each of the players writes
his bid on a piece of paper.
The bids are mixed and the
auctioneer must guess who
made each bid - who could
have estimated Jim's singing
abilities at five cents, or Bill's
jokes at $1,000.
The auction in itself is
strictly fictional, but the auc
tioneer wins a chip whenever
he guesses right and loses one
if he guesses wrong.
A game based on the same
principle is "the murder."
Here, one of the players is
"murdered" and everyone, in
cluding the victim, writes the
name of whoever he considers
the likely murderer and his
motive. The "judge" must
guess the author of each
theory.

'LAYERED LOOK
New York OJPD - The top
style for the back-to-school
set will be the "layered" look
in clothes, reports the Nation
al Cotton council. This is
achieved by adding one, two
and three pieces on top of
each other. A blouse or knit
pullover can be the primary
layer onto which is added a
vest and jacket. Combine
them with skirts, shorts or
trousers.
COOKOUTS POPULAR
New York - (UPD - Cooking
out rapidly has become a way
of life for Americans. A na
tional study done by research
ers for one advertising agency
reports that 81 per cent of all
U.S. families will cook out
B 3
this year. They will eat 1.3
billion meals outdoors, spend
$100 million on cooking;
equipment, and $750 million
on food for outdoor meals.

Old Locomotives
Now Earn Keep
By Hauling Fans
Arcade, N.Y.-flJri)-Two "old
ladies" who habitually smoke
in public, will be huffing and
puffing through western New
York again this year.
The venerable dowagers
are a pair of steam locomo
tives rescued from the scrap
pile and restored to operate
on the 15-mile Arcade and
Attica railroad.
Built more than 40 years
ago and still going strong, the
two coal burners have been
earning their keep hauling
old-time coaches filled with
railroad fans, picture-taking
tourists and school children.
The week end excursions,
which began last year, have
proved amazingly popular -and
they have probably marie
the Arcade and Attica the
only railroad in the nation
without enough rolling stock
to handle passenger loads.
The trips leave the line's
depot on Main street here and
meander up an unfenccd
grass- covered right-of-way
through rolling hills to the
hamlet of Curriers. With un
scheduled stops for photog
rapy, or on some occasions to
shoo cattle from thef tracks,
the leisurely 14-mile round
trip takes slightly over 90
minutes.
7S.000 Rida
A and A President Richard
Cartright has estimated that
75,000 passengers will make
the trip this year.
In fact, Carlwright is counl-
ing on the appeal of his old-1
j time equipment to provide the
j line's principal source of rev
enue. Freight service, handled on
weekdays with diesel locomo
tives, has been declining
steadily over the years due to
truck competition.
"If passenger business holds
up the way it has been, we'll
have the best year in our 80
ycar history," Carlwright
said, adding v,ith a smile, "It
just goes to show you thai
modernization isn't always
the only way to make more
money."
