Aid Amendment Vote Expected
Washington - ICT!) - The
House ForeiRn Affairs Com
mittee was expected to vote
today on an amendment to
the forcisn aid bill which
would make necessary con
gressional approval of any aid
projects costing more than
$100 million.
The amendment, introduced
by Rep. William S. Broom
field (R-Mich.) was aimed at
a U. S. project to build a pro
posed government - owned
steel mill at Bokaro, India.
He. and other legislators, op
pose the project on grounds
that American tax money
tihould not be used for "social
irtic" enterprises abroad.
"There have been far too
many instances of wasted
funds and inadequately
planned projects overseas,"
Broomfield said. "These have
been given the go-ahead by
agencies without Congress
having a chance to know
much about them, extept in
general terms."
The administration has
made no decision on whether
to lend India up to $512 mil
lion to cover the first step of
the plant's construction. Com
pletion of the second and
third steps, possibly In 1977,
would call for an additional
$379 million.
PIGS GONE ASTRAY
Auburn, Wis. - (VPIi - Wheth
er these little piggies went to
market or had roast beef,
farmer Floyd Lewis doesn't
know. But they didn't go wee-wee-wee
all the way home.
Lewis reported someone took
all 100 of his 35-Dound Hamn-
shire pigs while he was at the
county fair.
